Split Top Roubo Bench Build

I wanted to say that the projects from fellow FOG-in-intes reading this thread are amazing!!
It kills me why they don't get viewed more.  Maybe you guys need to post more "full size" photos.
I don't like those little thumb nails.

Gotta give Kudos to [member=2952]Gene Davis[/member] for his display cabinet.  Amazing design and craftsmanship!
I really want to see that slab table.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and guidance!

Dye your cherry knobs.  I dye all my cherry.

TransTint red-brown.

The knob description say "Infused"  is that the color or the finish?
I guess I can strip them down.

I've dyed cherry too.  I use General Finishes Water Based Dye and mix them to get what I want.
I probably have 6 colors.

I didn't want to go through the stripping process.
However, if I can't get babinga knobs, you bet I will.
Probably use Arm-R-Seal as a top coat.

Thanks

No need to stain, just use boiled linseed oil, allow to dry several days then apply your favorite top coat.  I've had cherry picture frames in my office no windows turn a deep red brown in 6 months.

The Bolts Worked.  Drilled em' dead-on.
Unlikely that will happen again.

On to attaching the laminate strip and the tail vise hardware.

Luke,
Looking great!  It's really coming together quite nicely.  Can't wait to see the finished product.  Thanks for all the pictures!

Mike A.

I don't think stain or dye will take because the knobs have been  infused with an acrylic rosin.  Stripping will not work.  The acrylic is throughout the wood.

Infused (penetrate) means the acrylic has been "pushed" into the wood under pressure.

Guess there is no harm in trying though.

I didn't realize they were infused.  Set them outside on a few sunny days.  That should help.  I hate to see stain on cherry

Interesting.  But I do like dyes.  Boiled linseed oil, not so much.  That's not saying I won't test it.
Folks, this is not mission critical and I have nothing but time.
Have to go visit my Charles Neil Online Finishing Class as well.

Great Help!
Thanks guys.

I figured infused was special.
Jim, I'll go with the outside in the sun approach.
Stripping sounds like a serious mess.

Again.  No biggie.

If anyone has built a Roubo or is building one.... Post pictures!!!!
I truly hope that a bunch will be built

BTW:
The thread will be dormant from Thurs until next week
I going to see my kids college commencement

Thanks guys.  These photos were taken right after I finished.  Of course now, like every other horizontal surface in my shop, it's piled high with junk.

I think every horizontal surface in my life gets piled with something... Sometimes, I'm afraid to lie down.

I really like the personalization and dating - not to mention, the craftsmanship!

Nice, Jim!

Doug fir?  I did biz in upstate NY with a yard that specialized in really good lumber, all western.  They had a lot of old growth stuff that was as dense as oak, tight-ringed, really beautiful stuff.

Your carved name and date is particularly impressive.  How much letter carving do you do?
