Picked up my new EQ1010 router today and when I got it home the black insert in the systainer is crushed and split this has happened before with my ts55 I will go back and try to get a new one but just wondered if anyone else has had this problem or is it just my bad luck.

PS the router seems unharmed I hope.

These are brand new from the shop its happened twice now not so much worried about the insert but the tool must have been bashed about to break the insert, it hasnt been sitting around either it only arrived from Germany today.

Just wondering if anyone else out there has broken inserts in a BRAND NEW tool not ones that you have split yourself.

The inside of the systainer itself was damaged when I bought my router. Tool seemed perfectly fine, but as you say, I assume it had been knocked around a little in transit?

From time to time, I have had some issues with cracked inserts and other.  Tools have always been fine.  They are packed pretty well, but transport companies are ot the friendliest to stuff.

I would return it (Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200GBP).  ;)

I have got about 7 Festools in systainers mostly from the UK but then shipped another 8,000 miles to me and not one of the inserts  have been damaged.

The main reason I would get a replacement is that the packing inside the systainer is so good the tools have no room to move. So any thing that could cause the amount of damage you talk about must mean that the tools have been subjected to extreme force, and for the dosh you have to spend that is totally unacceptable.

I picked up a new insert this morning no problem but yes if I do find the router is damaged then it will go back but hopefully it isnt damaged it looks fine have not tried it out yet.

I have a job lined up for the 800 rail on Monday, I need to cut the nosing off of the bottom tread on a new oak staircase in situ so that I can biscuit join on an extended bullnose step.

I should be able to use my TS55 and the 800 rail, might post some pics if I get time.

As annoying as it is, a torn systainer insert, is just hat - a torn insert; the tool is safe and sound.  Fairly brittle plastic (or whatever the material is) has little give to it; I think the answer would be to have some rubber (or whatever the material) added  to the systainer mixture to add some flexibility.

Hi Bob

Sure I agree that an insert with a tear or split would be nothing to get worried about just ask nicely for a replacement. But the OP said that his was "crushed and split" and I think you would agree that, that suggests the shipment has been subjected to an excessive amount of mishandling. Festool UK has a poor reputation for customer service  :-[ and should not be allowed to just shrug off something like this as normal. From everything I have heard the will if they can  :o So this should not be let slip.

Were this in the US I would not suggest such an aggressive stance as Festool US has a good record of not being "jobsworth" people and going beyond the limits of the contract, acting in the spirit of the guarantees.

I hope that the US attitude will spread.

  Agreed.

It didnt come from festool uk as i said it came direct from Germany. All i can think is that someone closed the systainer with maybe the instruction manuals in the way this would have squashed the router down more than normal.

Your tools, your risk, your call.

I would have a different approach. If some one did do as you suggest they are in the wrong job or need retraining. And if that happened it will be clear from the state of the manuals.

I don't have a 1010 but I with my 1400 what you suggest would be difficult do do and even more difficult to close the systainer having done it. It would need the intelligence and strength of a brain damaged simian.  ;D  One would hope and expect that people like that are not involved with such high quality (and price) machines.

FWIW the only 3 tools I have that are "Squashed" down in the systainer have foam inserts that are soft and can't crush the insert. My TS55 and 1400 have solid expanded poly inserts that do not put anything but the most minimal pressure on the tools if that.

just to clear things up i did not order it direct from germany thats just how it came my dealer faxed festool uk they ordered it then it arrived from germany well thats what the dealer said anyway. Had to clarify that as i had a PM asking why i had ordered it from germany and was there any advantages  ;D :D
