T15 - 3 drill - 25 torque number yields the highest torque?

Hello all.

Received T15 + 3 drill yesterday - couldn't get on with as small as 1/8 screw? Thought would want to return it but it turned out that the lowest torque number actually yields the lowest torque (not surprising :-)
Though the look and feel is nice.
Regards

Hello asmirnov and welcome to the FOG. I can't help but believe you received a a defective drill and/or batteries. As I'm typing this I also working on my review of the T15 and I've got almost nothing bad to say about it. It has an amazing amount of torque for a drill its size, nearly as much as my old DeWalt 18V XRP drills. I'd encourage you to return your drill and try a new one.

Asmirnov,

Sounds like Festool drills are not for you.

If it were me, I'd return it immediately and get a nice Dewalt 18V drill.   They have lotsa torque.  Not controllable of course, but lots of it.  And the great part is that they last at least 3 weeks and not more than one in four batteries explode.

Dan.

Though the look and feel is nice. Just surprised at complete lack of power.
And this is 14.4 V! I wonder about those marketing C12 (or whatever that model number is) - with 12 volts looks like the torque goes up as voltage goes down based on those videos :-)

Regards

I think somethings wrong Houston.  Mine will yank it out of my and in drill mode with tourque if I mistakenly leave it in drill mode.  Could you possible have it in screw mode and have the clutch turned way down?  Reach out to your vendor and they will make it right no matter what.  The drill is a pleasure.  I have the makita 18v LI drill purchased about 2 months before the T3 came out.  Still bought it after  using at woodcraft.  Don't regret it one bit!

Asmirnov,

Please return it to your dealer once you have checked the battery and torque settings per the manual if it is still not working properly.  This drill has tremendous power and in a recent review by the editors of Fine Woodworking, the T15+3 outperformed most 18v drills, so there is definitely something not right about this situation.  If the drill is not working properly, the dealer should gladly replace it or refund you money.  Let us know how it turns out.

best regards,
Martin

Ive had the t15 for 7 weeks or so and it the best gun i have ever used and i had a 18 xrp before didnt last more than a year then i bought a set of 2 ni cads  about 3 months ago as i thought the t15 could not use an auger bit but after about a mothe of the dewalts i wemt to get my ts 55 blades sharpend and was hovering over the festool section of the tool store and said to the manager about the auger situation so i made him charge up the t 15 and the new dewalt 18 lion so i wated about 20 minutes and gor a 25 mm auger bit and tested them on a pallat and the t15 was about 5 times stronger and half as light so i bought it and love it and i auger about 8 doors pine doors hinge then on 1 battery charge love it to peices but i cant seem to auger bits for Centrotec for quick change in britain thats my only problem

Martin and all who responded,

Thank you for the quick response - it was my fault - the torque setting was actually lowest, couldn't get it right so late in the evening (didn't have patience enough not to try on opening the box). I figured the lower the speed the higher the torque and the lowest number for the torque (3) seemed to yield the lowest speed, but didn't turn out to be the case.
So the torque is good. Sorry for the confusion.
Essentric and angle chucks are great additions. Looks like the 'made in Germany' stamp didn't fail :-)

Best Regards,

Anatoliy

dont feel to bad as it took me 2 weeks to figer out the t15 and thought charge was rubbish but i didnt know that u had click it in

and the screw driver setting actualy work and i wasent used to actualy using setting at all

I was a little confused myself when it started beeping at me. The most important thing for me to remember is not to grab the drill by the chuck, which is a very common way to grab on when someone passes over a cordless. You end up holding just the chuck. yikes....

Auger bits require alot more power you should use flat bits much easier on the drill and still just as fast and more controlable and cleaner cut.

I had loads of problems with 2  T15 drills but once it was sorted I loved it brilliant drill nothing gone wrong with this one so far. The power is brilliant the size is like 6 inch in length and their is no drill which has that power to size ratio.  I keep seeing people sayin Dewalt drill but I dont know what dewalt is like in the USA but in england its the worst brand of tools in the proffesional side you can buy.  Dewalt prices are like proffessional tool prices but are of the standard of DIY here in the UK.  I have a few dewalt tools and used a few and not 1 of them has made me want to buy dewalt any more. The only thing I own dewalt now is the Dewalt nail gun and it is a good tool but isnt very robust.

Very true lol I have done that a few times my self. Just piss you off when you try and look after it making sure you done knock it about and then you end up dropping it any way.
