Someone quickly replied and gave him the link for the tape measure I used. I thought about replying to my other review and adding information to that thread but realized that Brian.ca’s question really pointed to the fact that things as simple as tape measures can be a valuable product to and more information can be of benefit.

I don’t know how many tape measures I have owned, used, broken or lost over the years. Some I liked many I loathed. Too many times I found the scale down to 1/32 of an inch or even 1/64 of an inch, on the first few inches and Dang! Try and read that when you’re working above your head in dark corner!
Or they are only readable on one side of the tape. Also the color tape and the numbers so close they have no contrast and are hard to read.

FastCap makes many things; their website says the best selling line for them is their tapes measures.  I just have just three types of their many measures and would enjoy having a complete set to see how much I would use the others. What I find refreshing and like about the FastCap line is that they offer many options.

We all work differently, on different things; therefore having measuring options just makes sense.

Yes, it's a VERY user friendly tape measure, no matter which model you get.  LOVE the pencil sharpener alone, it's icing on the cake that the tape is accurate and readable on top of it...  [big grin]

Thanks Steve and bionicus ... you even answered a question I didn't ask yet!  Been wondering who makes a strictly metric tape.

But the main thing that grabbed my attention was the lefty/righty scale.  I used to hate metric/standard combo tape measures b/c I'd always run into situations where I'd want a standard measurement but had to read from the metric side.  Then when I bought a strictly standard tape measure I found myself making stupid mistakes from time to time like cutting a piece 63" when it should be 36"  [huh]  (especially if it's the first cut of the morning).  I'd buy it for just that but I'm sure that notepad will see a lot of use too.

I have several of their tapes including that yellow one.  While the quality isn't quite where I'd like it to be, I like the size and innovative features.  However...

The newest one (the yellow one) that I got was over 1/16" off when compared to the other FastCap tapes, and compared to several rules from Starret and Woodpecker.  When I showed the Woodcraft manager and then took several of the new yellow ones off the shelf, ALL of them were off by varying amounts.  I returned it and got my money back, but it bothers me that quality is slipping.

The new one has some nice features, but it's cheapened when compared to the old ones.  I strong recommend that anyone purchasing a FastCap tape check it against a known quality reference.

One thing to be careful of is accuracy of each one. As some are off up to 3/16 of an inch. So check it to an accurate method

I had one that was offv3/16. Fast cap will send you another. Check um with your other tapes especially if you are using 2 at a time

Yeah, that could really screw things up [eek]

I have one of the lay flat type. Since it isn't used for inside measurements , the hook doesn't slide. It is pretty good.
