I don't know how I missed this product [embarassed] for a quick rip this seems to be the answer.

I would like to know how useful any of you find the Parallel Edge Guide for the TS 55 & 75 Plunge Cut Saws. I think it would be very helpful as I use all of my Festool tools on site not in a shop...(I wish)

The link to the TS75 part is http://www.festoolusa.com/products/plunge-cut-circular-saws/stops-and-accessories/parallel-guide-492243.html

Your thoughts on this product would be helpful.

Cheers,
Steve

Steve,

Here's a review I did a couple months back regarding the parallel guide with TS75:  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tool-reviews/video-review-of-parallel-guide-attachment-for-ts75/msg137241/#msg1

In the first couple of minutes I show how I joint the board... might be worth going to the very last post in the above thread to see the quicker and safer way I came up with to set the parallel guide to width.

I believe Paul Marcel has a similar review out there as well (that I was unaware of when I made mine).  Additionally, if you go here http://www.woodshopdemos.com/fes-par-1.htm you'll find the written version of a review that led me to buying the parallel guide and using it for ripping.

Can this be used with the guide rail???????

Take a look at the product link in the first post. No it is for when you need quick cut and don't want to do the whole get out the guide rail and the clamps and find surface to cut on.  Just a quick way to use the TS saws for a quick cut but not freehand it.

Cheers,
Steve

Both the parallel guide and the extensions are very useful accessories.  This is especially true if you have to work in the field outside the shop.  For some infomration on using these, you might look for 3 videos that I produced in 2010 and are on You Tube and this site.  Just search for "RogerMUxx" on you tube or for my name on this site.  These videos are of an instructional nature

This parallel edge guide is meant to be used without the rail, to make parallel cuts with the rail there are these accessories

The Parallel Edge Guide http://www.festoolusa.com/products/plunge-cut-circular-saws/stops-and-accessories/parallel-guide-492243.html
is different than the Parallel Guide that you point to.

Steve

Uhm, I'm sure that Frank-Jan is fully aware of this, and was attempting to point out the difference between the Parallel EDGE Guides that are the topic of this thread, and the other Parallel Guides that some are thinking of instead.  If you read his post again, I'm sure you will understand what he was trying to say.

Well, yes, but NOT like you may be thinking.  You would NOT use this Parallel EDGE Guide with the saw on the Guide Rail to guide the saw along the edge of your material, as the Guide Rail is what will dictate the saw's path.  There is, however, a situation where one might make use of the Parallel EDGE Guide while the saw is on the Guide Rail, and that is to stabilize the saw on the Guide Rail when the saw is tipped for making a bevel cut.  Typically, when you make a bevel cut you would first make a cut at 90 degrees and then tip your saw to the desired bevel and cut again.  With the saw set for a bevel, the weight of the saw's body makes the saw want to fall over, thus requiring you to hold the base flat to the Guide Rail with your other hand.  If you install the Parallel EDGE Guide upside down from its normal position, the outer guide is the correct height to ride along the surface of the off cut material and may prove to be a better method to stabilize your saw during this bevel cut.  Hope this explanation is clear.

I mainly use the guide to cut bottoms of doors. To remove just a bit for carpet or new thresholds...

Got to say I love this site...

A FOG member had one for the TS55 that they just didn't need anymore and is it selling to me ...  Woooo Hooooo!!!!!

Okay sorry Festool as it is not a new purchase from you ... but please know it is going to a good home where it will be used but not abused.

Cheers,
Steve

Steve, just a few days ago, I saw Corey's video and thought "how did I miss this attachment?"

I called Tom Bellemare and talked to him about it and my continued quest to be able to avoid taking a table saw to the jobsite.  I have the edge guide on its way now, maybe by tomorrow.  Let me know what you think once you're received yours.

Straight from the Festool web site..."Parallel Edge Guide enables guided, parallel cutting with the TS 55 Plunge Cut Saw. Can be used for parallel rip cutting with the TS saw, independent of the FS guide rails. Attaches to both sides of the saw for short side or broad side cuts. Rip capacity from the blade side up to 11 13/16in (300mm), and on the motor side up to 3 3/4in (95mm). "

Cheers,
Steve
