I have both machines but, for your applications buy the DF500 set with the assortment kit.

See what happens ... I think they put drugs on the surface of the systainers and the tools - gets in through the skin and goes straight to the impulse centres of your brain.

Jack doesn't even realised he's infected.

Oh, I totally realize it when my stack of Systainers reached the ceiling of my shop [wink]  I have a Sysport full, a Syscart full and my CT 22 reaches great heights!  Almost time to build a wall unit with pull out's.

Jack

It's true, very true.

Well, I waited until I had a really good project for the Domino and then I purchased the DF700 with the Seneca adaptor and shims.  I joined some 6/4 white oak and it worked perfect.  Now all of my projects will have a domino in them!  And with the Seneca accessories, I'm glad I purchased the bigger one.  The build quality seems superior to the DF500 - (not to say the DF500 is bad - I think Festool just learned a lot with the 500).  I also purchased the RO150, RS-2E sander, CSX and another CT Vac.  It was a big purchase but I'm really happy with everything!

You bet all your projects will have a domino in them, it's a freakin' awesome tool!  Have fun with the new tools!  Please try to post some pics of the projects you build.

I am lucky, I have both.  I ordered the Seneca adaptor to use the DF700 with the DF500 bits, so it is like having 3 dominos.

I find myself using the 4mm dominos quite a but and I don't think it's included in the set (it wasn't when I bought mine).

3 ?

A 500, a 700 and what? [huh]

The DF500 has a limit on how deep can drill the mortise, so you have to improvise to use it to maintain the structural integrity with an small tenon.
The use of multiple dominos comes to mind to fix that problem.

The DF700 cannot use small bit, it starts from 8mm.  So you cannot use it with plywood 1/2 or 3/4

If you want to use a small bit 4, 5 or 6 mm with the DF700 or you want to have a deeper mortise that the DF500 then the Seneca adapter comes handy.  You can use the 4,5,6 mm with the DF700 and also have a deeper mortise.  That is why I call it a 3 domino (DF600 comes to my mind  :) )

It bridges between the difference of the 2 Dominos.  I hope I make sense.

Now I'm with the program ... thanks [wink] that makes perfect sense!

I ave a 500 and a 700 and was asking myself what reason I could have to get the Seneca adaptor, now I have one.

While we're talking Domino innovation - I'd love to see someone make continuous lengths of aluminium tenon stock too ... hey Seneca guys, what are you waiting for?? [big grin]

I have a number of peices of kit for mortices, bench morticer, jigs for mortices with the router, morticing attachment on my planner/thicknesser.I have never use any of them since I got my DF500,GET ONE you will not regret it.
I have just ordered the Domiplate and cant wait to start using it.

I've built book cases, cabinets, custom picture frames, built-in drawer units, and even small intricate boxes with the Domino 500. I've repaired really badly built drawers for a friend with the 500. I use stock from 1" down to 1/2" with the 500 and everything from exotics to Baltic birch plywood.

I bought a whole slew of aftermarket accessories for the 500. The only one I use is the Domiplate. One of my issues with the Domino is that the fence can "creep" if not well tightened. For 3/4" and 1/2" stock, the Domiplate gives totally accurate and repeatable results.

I gave away my table top mortiser after learning how to use the Domino. I rarely use my biscuit cutter.

And, learning how to use the tool is very critical. I find Halfinchshy's Youtube videos especially helpful. There are a lot of "tricks" he shows in the video that will shorten your learning time and save frustration. It's important to go through the calibration process. Otherwise, you won't be happy with the results.

The accessory kit is well worth the money. You'll probably eventually want all the stuff that comes in the kit and it's cheaper buying the kit than all the pieces individually.

I'm sure the Domino 700 is a very nice tool but there's nothing I can imagine doing that needs such a massive tool.

Birdhunter,

I had the same issue with the DF500, you can search here in the forum.  It is suggested that you shouldn't tight excessively the lever.  If there is a any warranty left contact festool.  If not then you can follow what many as me did to fix the problem. It is very simple.  I bought mine when it was launched in USA a few years back, I followed the suggestion and no more problems.
