To Carvex or not to Carvex…

I like everything about the Trion except the difficulty of seeing the cut line from anywhere but directly in front.  The size, weight, compactness, and the feel of the handle are all better to me than the carvex.
I got the corded carvex first and for what I need a jigsaw for it worked well. Now it stays in the shop and the cordless carvex stays in the van.
Both saws were drastically improved by the ball bearing pin mod which also allowed me to grind the carbide guides back a little which  further improved cut line visibility from the sides.

I have corded Carvex, cordless Carvex and the Trion. Of all of them I prefer the Trion. I think I prefer my old corded Hitachi to the corded Carvex.

I've often thought about getting the Mafell but the lack of a cordless version made be hold back. Now I'm waiting to see what people think of the Mafell PS2-18. Not sure if the new cordless is compatible with the magnificent tilting plate and whether it will have the same "guts" as the corded version. Support for Mafell in Oz is also non existent  .. GRRR!

Sad fact is that I'd probably find less use for another jigsaw if I had space for a good bandsaw .. in fact I've also got a Hegner scroll saw tucked away that I've all but forgotten :(

My growing Makita collection also has me looking at the new XGT Makita jigsaws.

Bottom line though - DON'T CARVEX IMO.

Other things for me that can dictate though is dang, the Mafell aint cheap (maybe cuz i'm in the US? Timberwolf tools its like $715 bucks).

I was fortunate enough to have extensively used both the Trion and the Carvex on previous projects so when the P1cc went on sale in the US around 2017 for $475 it was a colossal no-brainer.  [big grin]

You can buy locally now, from Craftsman Hardware in Melbourne. And yes, same tilting baseplate as the P1.

Has anyone added a light to their Trion?

Derek

I almost forgot that was one of the features of the Carvex; it's light, and also the ability to strobe it 1:1 with the blade.

No problem, Coen. I started a thread where I added a light to my Trion.

The P1CC is in a class of its own. No comparison.
Yes there is no light.. but the airflow is designed to blow across the cutline and gets sucked right out if you have a vac..you always see the line even if you have minimal visibility.
The motor is a beast. Beautifully designed and the stroke is butter smooth. Might seem to get hot, but its designed that way.. its normal and will settle down.
The cunex blade while the cut is rough (have to use the splinter guard) provides stunning 90deg cuts every single time. Yes the base slides (great feature) once locked it 90deg even with any other blade. The tilting base is also great!
It's a joy to use the P1CC.. i reach for it evey single time.. even though i have a chordless makita that is fantastic.
Buy once.. buy the best..and focus on the build and not worry about the tool.

I second everything in this short of having a second choice, all the other blades make cleaner cuts than the cunex, and it’s great in metal and composites as well. One of my favorite tools to use.

P1cc if you can justify (never been happier) but my carvex has been a real disappointment …
For rough I grab  Dewalt 20 v. For detail work nothing but the p1cc
