This is my first post to this forum, so I apologize if i'm not posting in the correct area. I am not a Festool owner however i am a frequent drooler over the results (glue ready cuts) the TS owners talk about. I have a specific use in mind for the saw, but i was wondering about the guide rail use with the parrallel edge guide.part # 491 469 My cut is going to be about a 30 degree bevel with the rail, but i need the saw to index off of an existing quarter inch dado to the right of the bevel cut. Is it possible to attatch a piece of  quarter inch stock to the parrallel edge guide and let it hang down below the p.E.G. And let the saw and rail index off of an existing dado? I need to do this single pass cut to about 100 different pieces that already have the dado. I'm sorry for the hard to get picture of what i'm trying to do, think about it this way: 2 inch thick hardwood 8 inches wide 50 inches long with a 1/4" dado parrallel to my intended cut line. TS 55 with rail tilts to the right for the cut with the guiderail on the left with spacer blocks under the rail to keep it level. The parrallel edge guide outrigger with the indexing piece attatched on the right side of the saw. Run the saw down the guiderail indexing off of the dado making a 30 degree bevel parrallel to the dado!!!! Does this sound like something doable? I'm thinking Festool is the answer but wanted some feedback before i throw down some cash. I was thinking TS 75 and the big vacuum??? Thanks for all of your help. Sorry for the long post--pooltableguy

edited to change rabbett to dado, sorry for the confusion

Hi PoolTableGuy,

First off, welcome to the forum.  Back when I could see straight, I used to shoot some stick too.

As to your question, I don't own the parallel edge guide for either the TS55 or TS75.  But I don't see that using one of those in conjunction with the saw on the guide rail as the best solution to your situation.  If placed on the guide rail, the saw will track down the guide rather than locate via the parallel edge guide.  So, instead, I would suggest getting a pair of Festool's Edge Stops for the LR32 Hole Drilling System to locate the guide rail in relation with your rabbet.  These Edge Stops can be used on either side of the guide rail to locate the rail to your material.  Maybe someone else will have another possible solution.

Oh, and to support the rail, you can simply use one of 99 other pieces you have....

pooltableguy,

I would have to agree with Corwin. Forget the parallel guides and use the edge stops

If I understand you correctly, the Parallel Guide for Guide Rails can index off either side of the saw and it sounds like you want to index of the blade side as in the image below.

If you look closely, you will notice that the stops are on what I normally consider the off cut side. I think that is what you were seeking.

To achieve this configuration you need the set so you have the Extensions.

Uhm, I think he was referring to the these Parallel Guides -- they offer one that fits the TS55 and another that fits the TS75.  in any event, I still would think the Edge Stops would work better for the problem at hand.

I guess talking about the guide rail threw me. I don't see why you would want the guide rail with that one.

If it is that one that he's talking about, you can use it one way to gauge distance from a wall or other upward protrusion or flip it over 180 degrees and gauge distance from a downward edge that you hang it over. It also works tremendously better than the typical edge guide you get with a circular saw.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their feedback. I actally saw Tom's post with his phone # and called and talked to him about what I'm trying to do. Thank you Tom, for taking the time to help me. POOLTABLEGUY---LAS VEGAS
