TS55 dust port adapter

Hi everyone,

Please excuse the rather basic question.

I'm lucky enough to own a TS55-REBQ Plus, but not lucky enough to own an accompanying Festool vac. Currently I use the saw with my shop vac connected slightly precariously using a rubber, tapered adapter. It sort of works, but frankly it's cumbersome, distracting during a cut, and often detaches at an inconvenient moment. Yes I could probably improve things with some duct tape, but I move the hose from tool to tool and this would just be a nuisance.

While I would like a CTL Midi for my small shop, realistically it's not at the top of my priority list at this point.

To improve my current set-up, as far as I can tell I have a couple of options:

1. I could purchase a Festool hose with the bayonet connector, and then figure out how to connect that hose to my vac.

2. I could find an adapter to attach to my TS55 which then creates a better connection to my existing hose.

I'm unclear if the intention of this adapter is to have one end attached to the bayonet adapter on the saw, and the other end attached to a host. OR if the adapter exists to connect to an older Festool tool (without the bayonet connector), allowing it to connect to newer Festool hoses (which do have the bayonet).

I'd be grateful for a bit of guidance here - is buying a Festool hose with the correct connector the way to go, or is there a Festool part (possibly the link I added) that allows me to use the bayonet connector on the tool with a regular hose.

Ah, fun with hose adapters and fittings.

You need to measure (or otherwise suss out) the measurement of your existing hose and also the ID and OD of the existing inlet fitting (the part you are currently using to haphazardly attach to your saw). Without those crucial pieces of data you are shooting in the dark. With those measurements you can spend some time online or at your nearest hardware/tool store figuring out which adapter or entirely new fitting you need. You already know the ID and OD of the dust port on your saw so its just a matter of finding the right fitting or adapter. A word of caution, this issue (of trying to get various makes and models of tools, vacuums, hoses, and fittings/adapters to play well together) can be more than a little maddening.

FWIW the actual bayonet is totally irrelevant. I have a TS55 REBQ with the old style (no bayonet) dust port. My CTL Midi is a year newer and does have the bayonet. It still fits the same way, just a squeeze fit, and has never come out. There are similar stories from people with newer sanders and older vacs. TBH the bayonet is more of a nuisance than a boon, for me. As long as you can find the right size, I'm sure you'll be fine. As far as I'm aware most pro level dust extractors come with either 35/36mm or 27mm rubber hose ends, both of which should fit.

Interesting about the bayonet - to be honest I was under the impression that was the cause of my problem, with nothing fitting snugly as it wasn't equipped with the magic connector, and what I actually needed was a magical piece to snap in snugly.

What I'm using currently is fairly hideous - one of thesehttps://www.axminster.co.uk/mirka-u...=emarsys-recommendations-product-page-related with the narrow end trimmed very slightly and wedged into the TS55, and the host pushed up as far as possible inside the wide end.

Nothing works properly, and realistically I've probably spent more than the cost of a decent Festool hose just trying to make it work...
