Woodpeckers just today announced their next one-time tool.
A freaking 26” precision square!  This is 8” longer than their 18” carpenters square, which I previously thought would be the ultimate MFT/rail setup tool, and this has a 16” heel.

http://www.woodpeck.com/2616squarewp.html

Not sure if I can comfortably swallow the price, but I have on more than a few occasions wanted something larger than my 12” WP square to setup the fence/rail, and also to setup the rails for a 90 degree crosscut on some wider panels.

Perhaps I’ll also keep it near my nightstand to fend of any home intruders.     [wink]

I have just Pm'd Wood Junkie and await response!! [not worthy] [not worthy] [drooling] [drooling]

Oye, the gauntlet is thrown!

I have to measure my wall to make sure there's space.  That thing is gargantuan.  I'd guess the wall case will be about 22" x 32"

And a plus for the everyone outside the USA is that it is being offered in  metric as well.

Note the wall case is routed out MDF. Many of the Woodpeckers measuring items include the case, but I have found that it is much handier not to use the cases. I keep it all hanging much easier to grab than to remove it from the wall case. That case is going to add a lot of weight for international shipping too, but also extra protection.

This new one weighs in at 4 #s   [eek] so it would be prettyu good to fend off intruders as suggested   [smile]

But would it stay square after using in such a way? [unsure]

Lifetime guarantee on squareness.  ;-)

It doesn't say it on all the product pages, but here's their most comprehensive statement (from the 12" Precision Square page):

"Guaranteed Accuracy. We're so confident that our Precision Aluminum Squares are the best, most accurate square you'll own, we cover them by a Lifetime Guarantee to stay square to within a minimum of .001” or we'll replace it.  If for any reason, your square isn't, simply return it to us for immediate repair or replacement"

I'm on the other side of the fence.  I keep all my WP items in their cases on the wall.  It only takes 2 seconds to get something out, and I know they're not going to fall to my concrete floor and get dinged, bent, etc.

Wood_Junkie    I like you like my square in a case, between the shop and on-site it just makes me feel better about protecting them, hence I ordered the case for the square

I got an email yesterday from Woodpeckers.  They got so many emails about this square that they've extended the ordering deadline to May 30 and they also got requests for the long rule which has a change in its length now to 50 1/2" or 1282mm or combo inch/metric with a new hook stop and that has been extended to June 13.

What's the methodology for squaring the MFT using this square? I've seen several posts with quite a few different ways of Squaring the MFT. Anything that makes the process quicker and more precise can only be a good thing :)

They recently ran a production run of the 18" Precision Triangle that is like a humongous Swanson speed square. Really great tool for checking square on the MFT and other tools. This giant square will do the same. Woodpeckers a while ago produced a gigantic square made of phenolic that I purchased. Has been handy on rare occasion. It is even larger than the current oversized aluminum square being offered.

I finally received my extra large square from Woodpeckers.  This thing is a beast and downright pretty  [tongue]  I'll be using it to align my rails including the one on my MFT.

I'm guessing you mean the 26" square?  I'm still waiting for mine, actually the 50 1/2" rule is coming first.  I believe it was because I ordered the case with the square that it's delayed.  Can't wait!

I received my 26" square a week ago and the 50.5" rule came this week.
Both are awesome instruments.

Sorry, I did mean to say the 26" square.  I didn't order the case, so that's why it shipped last week.  The 50" rule shipped at the same time (5 minutes apart), so far, I only received the square.  Boy is it nice to have a good square.  My Home Depot cheapo wasn't cutting it.
