Ultimate Work Bench Plans

As I told you via email, I got the plans, and printed them. I had to buy some plywood, because I had nothing to match 3/4"... I bought 21mm (a little bit more... Hope it won't be too heavy !) because it seems in France we have only 15, 18 an 21mm.

The euro equivalent of 3/4'' (19 mm) is 18 mm. 18 mm ply is strong enough for this work bench. You're really not doing yourself a service by making this out of 21 mm ply. That's gonna be heavy.

If you are interested, I'll send you metric conversion (I must do it to build the UWB).
Just a question concerning sawhorses : wouldn't it be nice to have a slot on both inner and outer section to set the shelf ? It would also improve stability, wouldn't it ?
Hearing from you soon
Frederic

Frederic,
I would go with thinner lighter ply. I am still working on the prototype using 3/4" (19mm) and actually the net of the 3/4" I use  is 11/16" When I build the updated version that the plans reflect, I am going to try 3/8" for top of bench, 1/4" on bottom, and 1/2" ply for horses. I am not recommending this until I test it myself. This design gets it strength from the hollow box beam design and glue tying it all together not the thickness of ply. The horses are very strong using 3/4", so much so 1/2" may do the trick. The single tab on horses are more than adequate.

So bad... I'll know it next time... I suppose 15mm is equivalent to 1/2"...
In fact, it won't matter, because I will use it only for sawhorses, sides, spreaders and shelf ...
Concerning the box itself, I think I will use 12 or 15mm, it will be lighter
Thanks for your help

I have no idea what your are taking about? I respond to everyone quickly. I even check my junk mail daily as few questions did get trapped there for some reason. As far as I know, I am current with all commuications. I also, have FOG send an email immediately when there is a new post. Now, if there is some area in FOG where I am getting messages other than here, where do I find it?  My email is crpaulk@msn.com. If you have a question, send it over.

Thanks,

Make sure that there is not issue with your e-mail account (sender).  For some reason my wife's e-mails never reach me at work.

My experience with Ron was that he was quick to respond.  He send me the paypal within a day of shooting him a message.  The plans were e-mailed to me within 30 minutes of payment.

My experience was similar to Kreg's.  Ron responded almost as soon as I hit Send, and I got my plans within minutes of sending payment.  If you haven't gotten a response, I think your message must have wound up somewhere other than Ron's inbox.

Great, enjoy the bench:)

I also got the plans instantly.

Frankly, at the price charged, Ron isn't really "making money" on this deal.  I'm very happy he took the time to create the plans and make them available at a nominal cost.  I would have been far too lazy.

These plans are great !
I began the building process, and normally the sawhorses will be over today.
Ron, I'll send you a couple of pics, and, if you want, measurements translated in mm
See you

Frederic,
I look forward to the photos. This is truly an amazing time when I find myself living on a small island in NW Washington and communicating with carpenters in France, Australia, Denmark, Ireland, UK, PR, Mexico, and all around the US.

Thanks,
Ron:)

Hi Ron
I completed the sawhorses and the shelf today : it seems to be quite easy to use ( the shelf is a little bit heavy, because I used 21mm plywood). I hope I will begin the tops tomorrow, and send first pics (on this post if you agree, with à copy on your mail)
In fact, I'm not a carpenter, but an anesthesiologist... Woodworking is a hobby, and also à mean to improve my home..!
Concerning measurements, if you want, you can send me Sketchup document, and I'll be able to "translate". It is not possible with PDF document. Else, I will send you a table with translation...
See you
Frederic
