I asked Festool and their answer is that this is not possible.

Of course they'd say that.
They want you to buy the new saw! Instead of spending 5 bucks, and leaving them with all that new saw stock in warehouses.

Please avoid the insinuations. They do not add anything to the topic and are false to boot.

Festool cannot officially say anything else. IF they did, they would be legally liable for endorsing modifications which were not approved/tested.

Plus, this is an official  Festool-funded forum, so even advertising such in form of a guide/recommendation is in the gray zone as is.

In theory (not reality) the most Festool could have done here is to get the older saws officially certified also with an 1.8 setup and offer two different RK for the new saws. One as an option possibly.

BUT.
The problem here is that the RK is NOT certified as a user-serviced part.*) So, they cannot do that without a complete re-certification of the saw. Which may not even be possible - not sure of the US regulations here.

Another but - even if was possible, it would cost a LOT of money for a very little benefit. Sure, some will pay $100 per alternate RK. But will you get at least 1000 such people so you can recoup, say, the needed $50k ce-certification cost ? Hardly. Only a LOT of complains on why a replacement RK now costs $100 instead od the usual $20 or so from the eKat. It simply cannot work commercially and be legally OK at the same time.

*) This in contrast with the EST EC 125/150 situation where the pads are user-serviceable to begin and they are also not a safety-related feature.

Just to get this out in open - if someone decides to try and modify a saw to remove the riving knife originally installed or swap over the thinner knife and posts that mod here, that post will be deleted.

In the Festool Live presentation last week the question about modifying the saw to go towards the thinner blade was mentioned.  It is not just one part and it is not an easy modification.

why modify a old saw when if your saw is in decent condition you can sell it and get a new one and pay very little for it.

Doesnt make sense to me

Haha. So to conclude what you are saying;
1) The forbidden fruit exists
2) Any proof of eating it will be deleted
3) More info on the forbidden fruit here;=1688
The guys in repair told me it's too many moving parts to replace the splinter guard on the older saw. If they wanna take the 1.8 and put it on. It's not just taking that splinterguard and replacing it. You have to replace part of the housing and gearbox. And Brad told me that the other day. It's not worth it because it's kinda expensive to get all those parts. It's not just one part, it's FIVE. And like of three of them are like massive and super difficult to switch out.

The super strange part however is that safety is not mentioned when it comes to putting old blades on the new saw...

Because people assume it is just a $5 part they need and that it's 'muh big bu$ine$$ suppresing the cheap upgrade'

Part 21 is also different. And that is €63 excluding taxes... which about makes up the price difference between selling your TS55 and getting a new TS 55 F  [tongue]

Or you could just buy a Mafell MT55. All this stuff which Festool are desperately copying was designed by the alternative Germans from the get-go.

Am with you on this one, corded it’s the MT 55, cordless it’s the TSC 55 K. Both saws can use the same blades although I’ve never mixed and matched at this point. Maybe this coming season it could be interesting.

The Mafell rail is a charm except for its lack of a PTFE strip to enhance the sliding smoothness of the MT 55.

You guys are slowly talking me into going with the TSC. Probably just in time for them to become hard to find or at a price hike?
I'm not in the Festool battery platform though. It would be the first. CSX doesn't count.
