I have an iPad 2 which is currently running 7.0.4, I tried to update to 9.3.  The update appears to download, but when I go to install it doesn't work.  Did anyone have this issue?  A way to fix?  Buying a newer iPad isn't an option.

My experience in the past has been if your iPad can't except the upgrade it would not download. So has it rendered your iPad useless.

Have you tried connecting your iPad to your computer and using iTunes to install the update?

My iPad still works, it is just some apps won't work or can't be downloaded from the App Store.  I guess my follow up question would be how or where can you get previous updates?  So if 9.3 doesn't work, would something in the 8's work?

So i thought I would give it another try.  So I click on install, it goes verifying update, then it says can't verify update because no longer connected to internet.  I am connected via wifi, obviously because I am typing this.

Using iTunes is the best way.
I have had this problem in the past. Sometimes it takes two or even three attempts using iTunes to get the update installed.
Preserve and it should install ok.

I received the same ' no longer connected to Internet' response when updating my IPhone. I freed up some memory, left it on a charger and it worked. I am not sure memory was the issue but a half dozen tries failed before.

IOS 9.3.2 is supposed to address some upgrade issues for older devices. I don't think it is released yet

Do a soft reboot on the iOS device. You can google it for instructions on how to do it... I'm guessing your iPad has 16gb of ram. Everytimebyounopenanapp it stays in memory.  Like the previous garbeled word. Things get wanky.

In a nutshell -
Home screen
Double press home button
Swipe all the apps upward to quit them. I'm guessing there are many.
After they are all gone then Hit the home button.
Then simultaneously hold the home button and power button ON.
Continue pressing the screen goes black during the reboot and wait until the apple logo appears.
Release the buttons and let the iPad restart.
Double click the home button again and check to see all the apps are no longer open. If they are you will have to do them in sets, by swiping like the above example and reboot each time. Sometimes you need to do different sets and just a few at a time. It's very frustrating and can take upwards of 30 minutes..,
But 9 out of ten times this fixes it.

Cautionary note: your not deleting the apps from your iPad, just force quitting them. That's why I mentioned to google it and look on YouTube or apples website. I don't want to be held responsible if you do something wrong.
