Use a HKC55 on a TS55 rail?

I'd like to use my HKC55 with the rails used for the TS55.  However, the splinter guard is "off"...probably due to the HKC55's thinner blade?  For example, if I attach and cut a new splinter guard with the HKC55, then use the TS55 on the same rail, the TS55 will recut the splinter guard to a smaller size.  Seems like I'm missing something.  Is this adjustable in some way?  Perhaps by adjusting the base of one of the saws?

Hi marrt,

No you're not missing anything, the splinter guard is cut specifically to the individual machine.

You maybe able to peel off the splinter guard and re-stick it, but then you would need to redo it every time you switch saws.

The HKC adjustment is similar but not identical to that of the TS.  I have both the HKC55 and the TS55 REQ as well as several rails.  I set the saws so that I can use any rail with any saw.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  For those that have both saws, is it easier to adjust the TS55 to the HKC55?  Or do you have to adjust both and meet in the middle?  I intend to tackle this project tomorrow.

Well things are a little fuzzy because it’s been about 2-3 years since I’ve adjusted the saws. However, I do remember the TS & the TSC were within about 1/4 mm of each other while the HKC was about 1 mm out, I was shocked.

So I tweaked the TS & TSC to match each other and then I verified that the HKC had enough adjustment available and then dialed in the HKC to follow suit.

The real mystery is why these saws don't come calibrated to the same distance from the factory.

Ya it'd be a pretty easy fix.

Tom [member=4105]tjbnwi[/member] produced a pretty handy fixture to calibrate all of his track saws using a short piece of track. Maybe he'll weigh in.

Good question. Seems to me the splinter guard is farther out on the HK rails but that doesn’t make sense so maybe it’s just that the HK saw cuts less of the strip back...?
Yeah the splinter guards are all the same size, I just replaced those on my rails. How much is left depends entirely on the position of the saw blade. I get that adjustability can be a perk but you'd think, especially with the "system" approach, that they'd be in the same ballpark from the factory.

I adjusted the saw today.  Only adjusted the TS55 since I could get the adjustment needed from that saw alone.  Took about an hour to get within a couple thousands.  The blade moves a bit when the base is tightened.  So, there a bit of trial and error (art) involved.
