Finally, about damn time somebody posts a pic of a shop that doesn't look like something out of Architectural Digest. A wonderful, dirty, grimy, crap everywhere, a shop I can relate to. Right on! I love it, bicycles and all. Mine are hanging from hooks off the ceiling.

Great shop. Is that a jig on your vacuum vise? If it is could you tell us about it? I love my vise and have made a jig for very small parts out of PVC. Thanks for showing your shop.

Thanks Peter.. whilst I agree with the sentiment that its not prestine.. property and floor space is quiet limited and very expensive in the UK, so whilst this shows a very real garage.. the xxxx hole comment was a little on the harsh side [laughing]

Sadly not a jig, just a bit of a dolls house I am working on for my daughter.. am lookign forward to trying the Festool vacuum pump for some bag press bent ply veneering projects soon.. will post more as that comes together

If they think your shop is a mess you should see mine. How do you like the Festool vac set up? Has it got the holding power that it is supposed to have. A few words of wisdom and your views on it useability would be nice.

The VAC is great but has it limitations, in that the cups are made of rubber so there is some slight movmenet, meaning I am not sure I would advocate it for heavy hand plane and chisel use.. but that again depends on which way you are working.. e.g. torsion is possibly more of an issue the pressure on the top face of the work surface. That said you won't break the clamping power. The base of the clamp sucks itself onto the worksurface (where is a valve).. or you can use a mountaing plate to connect it to the MFT which allows you to fold it under the MFT when not in use.

That said its just superb for routing and snading, and for routing I have drilled holes through templates, and put a rubber gasket on them, and then the clamp pulls the wood and tempalte together, and holds it in the clamp leaving all the edges free plus due to the height, means you can pass all round the edges in one go

Re the alumiun I used KJN profiles (see http://www.aluminium-profile.co.uk/ where you can order on line, and they can cut the pieces to size free of charge)
For connecting I used mainly these

Had a good look on their site, Do i take it that you have to drill the ends of the sections using, the jig they are selling. I am planing a sort out of the workshop and have various trolleys, benches and mobile racks to make. i was thinking of unistrut but this looks better.

Yes and know.. all the jig does is centre a 19mm drill bit, at the correct distance from the end of the profile, so a good pillar drill along with a simple jig could acheive the same thing
