Hi All,

I thought I had a good solution going as a fence for my MFT, using some Woodpecker track. But the four joined sections of track have to much flex. I broke a sheet down this weekend into square and they were noticeably off square.

I did some search on the forum and saw a few mentions to the Veritas Quad Fence. I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback on using it as a fence on an MFT.

I'd probably buy a 4' and 2' piece, two of their flip stops and mount them on some track dogs.

I bought that 1 1/2" fence stop to see how it would work with my 15 series 80/20.  It technically works, but it is not a perfect fit.  Looking forward to see what you think!

I use that track for a fence but I mount a piece of 3/4" hardwood on the face with 1/4" bolts into t nuts. This stiffens the fence a lot.

I mount a adhesive backed rule onto the hardwood. This allows me to loosen the bolts and move the tape to index it to the cut measurement. In practice you make a cut off a stop measure the piece then adjust the rule at the stop to read what the part measured.

I use Qwas rail dogs to mount the fence. They have a shoulder on the top of the dog that locates into the slot on the bottom of the track. I use a t bolt but as I recall I had to grind it a bit to fit in width.

You need to reconfigure the flip stop to make it work with the 3/4" piece on the front of the track. There are instructions in the box for how to do that.

My table is not standard. It is drilled to allow me to use one rail dog and pivot the fence on that dog to cut angles. I have drilled holes I can insert 5mm pins into to index the fence at 5 degree intervals or I can use the scale and then use the angle on the back of the track to lock the outward end of the fence with a clamp.

If you use 2 rail dogs you should be perfectly aligned to the holes.

I have (2) four foot section of the Quad Rail. I use (4) guide dogs to mount it to my modified MFT top. I put the track so it is not as tall. Makes it not deflect when used hard.

I did a similar concept with my Miter Station but I used Woodpecker’s Super Track and I didn’t need anything that tall on my MFT.

Your solution solves the calibration nicely so I think I will freely steal it

Thanks! That does look useful, have you seen a swing stop that works with a track like that?

Given how wide it would be, I could make it multi-purpose, allowing clamps to be used on my MFT....

I bought a 4’ track recently and it worked well for me (used on a table saw as a very wide miter fence).

Oh interesting, they have a bunch of tracks and flip stops. I haven't checked them out for a while....

that makes the decision harder!

Could you post a picture a the Woodpecker track that isn't working for you?  I'd be interested in seeing what isn't working for you, including any connectors between the track sections.

I've used a 4' section of the Veritas fence for a drill press fence on a custom drill press table that gets a fair amount of use, and I've never noticed any flexing issues with that.  The flip stops are solid.  I've never tried to connect two sections.

I like the Woodpeckers super track - it that the track you referred to in the original post?  I've got it on my table saw sled, on the table saw fence, and I also have the variable router jig.  I like the stops because they allow precise handling of angled ends against the stop.  It looks a lot like the Woodhaven ultra track, but sized differently so that the tracks can be offset to allow for a deeper t-track.  However, I've always used it with a 3/4" face or back.  Used upright, it would probably be too high for an MFT.  Used flat, it wouldn't flex but it would take up a lot of real estate and the flip stops wouldn't work for you.  The max length that Woodpeckers sells on their web site is 5', but I'd contact them before concluding that they can't get you longer pieces.  BTW, I'm not sure that any of the stops that Woodhaven or Woodpeckers sells would fit correctly if the track was used flat.

You might also look at the Kreg heavy duty track.  It's in an L shape, so that it is also resistant to flexing.  It's the track that they use on their miter gauge, and it's very stiff.  Again, I always have used it with a face or back.  However, the L-shape might be awkward for MFT use, and their stops tend to be bulky.  Also, the stops aren't as well suited to stopping angled ends.

I’m using four sections of the dual purpose track. TikTok won’t let me add a photo for some reason.

It’s the same track used in the parallel guide and the drill press. The four sections are joined using connectors I got from Amazon, Woodpeckers are beautiful but expensive. I might not have the same problem if I used a single piece... that would be similar to the Kreg track although it’s probably beefier, if I remember correctly.

I think the super track laid flat wouldn’t have the same issue.  But as you said it would take up a lot of space plus I’d have to rethink the flip stops.

I have tried to order three tracks and two flip stops from Lee Valley. They are low on stock but will apparently ship from the store... I think that’ll work nicely and the price is pretty good!
