What is the correct Festool Bushing Adapter that fits Porter Cable Bushings

I just purchased what I thought was the correct bushing adapter to be able to fit my Porter Cable Bushings on my OF 1400 router.  Actually, it's to fit the bushings from the Woodpeckers hole boring jig, which I believe are the same size as standard Porter Cable bushings.

The center hole is too small, both on the adapter that came with my OF 1400, and the Festool replacement that I thought was correct from Highland Hardware.

What is the correct part number for this bushing?

The correct Festool adapter is 493566.

If I remember correctly, it's been a couple of years  [unsure], the the OD on the Woodpeckers bushing was slightly larger than normal and I had to put it in the lathe to remove some material. It didn't take much, maybe .004" to .008" needed to be removed from the OD.

Didn't that come with your 1400? It did with mine.

I too recently purchased an OF 1400. My bit isn't 100% centered in the bushing. After searching the excellent info here have found this is common and there is no adjustment for this like on most routers. Additionally, some have found the bushing adapter can move slightly when side loaded.

Not trashing the router - I love it so far but wanted to warn you before you made 100's of holes only to find they might be egg-shaped. Maybe bore a few sample holes and try out your dogs. When I have time I was thinking of making a custom base plate for the router when used with a bushing.

But its the threaded side of the Woodpeckers bushing that is too large for the Festool plate.  I tried my other Porter Cable Router bushings.  They fit fine in the Festool 1400.  Boy the Woodpeckers plate has been trouble.

Yes, it is, but just contact customer service and we'll send you a new one that has been tested to fit the 1400. I'll do it myself if necessary.

As Jeff said, yes it is. When I mentioned .004" to .008" material removal, I was referring to the outside diameter of the bushing. So that's only .002" to .004" per side. As a rule of thumb, I use .032" (1/32") as the typical, approximate amount of thread engagement per side.  So you'll still have .028"-.030" of thread engagement. More than enough for this application.

Thanks [member=7266]jeffinsgf[/member] for the heads-up. When I first stumbled upon this particular issue I initially didn't know if the problem was with Festool or with Woodpeckers. It was only after I measured the OD of my Porter Cable bushings that the solution became obvious.  [smile]

Sorry to hear that. What was the issue?

Fit and finish issues. Spent a lot of time on e-mails and photographs with Woodpeckers, only to be told that the product was within the designer’s standard. Eventually got the MFT Layout and Assembly Square replaced with a different tool.

Do you have a dial caliper that reads in thousandths? If you do, could you measure the outside of the threads as closely as you can?

No.  Only digital ones that read in hundredths.
