I finished a new coffee table for our living room

[attachimg=1]

It's made from quarter sawn white oak.  A mix of 8/4, 6/4, and 4/4.  First big project using the new table saw and jointer/planer, as well as various Festools.  All of the joints were made with dominos.  It made for an interesting glue up.

Some construction pictures below.

I think it came out well, and my wife is very happy with it!

Nice! Interesting design choice leaving off the end rails and the lower end stretchers

That's what i was looking at also.  [smile]

It really does change the design aesthetics. It initially looks good/normal and then you notice something's different and start scratching your head.

Me LIKEEE...

I love working with quarter sawn white oak. It’s an “honest” wood, easy to finish, and beautiful. Your design and your work did the wood justice.

Thanks to everyone who commented.  Very appreciated.

I thought I would add, that the design changed from my original sketchup model as I was building it.  That looked like:

As I was building it I decided it was too bulky.  The changes were to eliminate the lower end stretchers because I didn't think they were needed given the number of shelf supports, made the lower long stretchers thinner, moved the upper end supports inward (partially to make using dominos easier), and didn't put the bevel on the top.  I also changed the orientation of the shelf supports.

It was nice to be able to make changes as I went as I could start to see what it looked like.

Thanks again for the nice comments.
