Why can't I delete my own post?

I posted that I wanted a Kapex clamp.  A couple days later I found one, so went to delete my post.  It wouldn't let me, saying I can't delete my own post?  Seems like it would be a good thing to do; why can't I?

As long as I am here...  Why not delete some forums that aren't used, and consolidate a few others?  A trimmer FOG would be easier to use.

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to delete that thread. The only reason a member would be unable to delete their own thread is if someone else replies in it, which is not the case. When you go to the bottom of the thread and choose the option to remove it, do you get a message?  If so, can you let me know what it is verbatim? Sorry for the trouble.

Regarding consolidation, I am in favor of it but I'm not sure when it might happen.

I have also tried to delete a thread that received no replies. The forums gave me the same response also.

Well, I should have done this to begin with, but I went into the admin panel and see that the ability for members to deleted their own threads was turned off. I'm not sure if this got changed inadvertently at some point or if it has always been that way. Regardless, it's turned on now.

No you could never delete threads, but posts you could. We used to message the old administrator if we wanted threads deleted. He did it, but there was always some Resistance and a few times a firm no.

It is nice you let us keep our own thoughts and are able to delete them when we want to.

Some forums retain or at least claim ownership over any post and will not even let you delete a post made in haste that you may regret. And they even can keep the ideas you post as their property, I do not go to those forums anymore. One forum I could not even modify my own post 5 minutes later for spelling etc and I just find that rude.
