Will I still need my old circular saw?

I'm planning to buy a TS 55 or TS 75 soon. I've also been thinking that I should sell my old circular saw since I didn't think I would need it anymore. But the discussion in the cheap rival thread has me questioning this idea.

So what do you guys think? Once I have a TS 55 or 75, will I still need my old circular saw? If you still use one, what do you use it for?

You can't really get rid of it.

I cut dimensional lumber with my Makita sidewinder.

You really don't want to try and cut up 2x4's with the TS saws.

I use my PC sidewinder and Skil worm drive for remodeling work.  I don't think I'd use either of my Festool TS saws for cutting asphalt shingles, nail laden subflooring, tile and concrete or a number of other tasks.

Well I NEVER NEVER I MEAN  NEVER! Use my old Makita circular saw any more  BUT I do sometimes use my cordless Milwaukee circular saw not often though.   

So I would say keep the old circular saw unless you wait and see if Festool bring out a TS55/75 with a depth lock then you can get rid of your old circular saw but until then you will need a lockable depth saw OR get a Maffel saw.   

I have used my TS55 of the rail its not exactly the safest way to use the saw and it requires two hands to cut but also if the TS is sitting on the of cut piece your cutting and the of cut drops the saw base drops also as it has no bass on the of cut side to support the saw  if that makes sense?

depends what you use your current saw for. i still use mine alot as it far exceeds the ts saws for speed in certain tasks likewise the ts does certain stuff far quicker than my old saw

I would just keep it for when you need to cut 2X or have a remodeling job and need to tear out floors,roofs,etc....
beside you're not going to get much for it.

I use my DeWalt saws to cut:  Hardi Board, tearing up floors (when I don't feel like looking for nails), and as a loaner  [tongue]

The plunge saws and regular saws are both circular saws , but they are not really the same tool.  If you think you will be doing any framing type, cuts 2x lumber, especially anything that is being cut 'in place'after it has been nailed etc. Not something I would recommend the plunge saws for , very tricky business.  Keep the regular circ saw.

I still use my older P-C and Bosch circular saws for outdoor work, like cutting framing, sheathing and subflooring, but reserve the TS55 for finish work, flooring and cabinetmaking chores where cut quality and accuracy matter in a big way.

I agree with everbody else, keep it.  It will make a good loaner saw to those folks who bring your tools back "almost" like they were when they were borrowed.  "Or, you can just say no.
