Woodpeckers new MFT Square

It's not for me as I already have the 1281 woodpeckers square but besides that...

...why would you hang a precision measuring tool off the side of the MFT where it could easily be knocked off?

Along the same line, after several drops on the floor my square was knocked out-of-square so I sent it back to Woodpeckers and they corrected it free of charge which was very good of them.

Meh.  I like my 18" Woodpecker triangle better.  Although this new thing is adjustable, it seems like all those screws also means it can get out of adjustment easier.  I don't see how the standard 18" triangle can get out adjustment.  It's one piece.

Wonder why they did not incorporate the MFT dog holes into the triangle?  I might have been interested then.

That certainly would have guaranteed the MFT Square to be at 90 degrees, then you could verify the fence and rail were matched up, interesting.

I sort of like it, I agree hanging it off the edge seems like an accident waiting to happen. And, being a one time tool, I have to wait 6 months before I can square up my MFT!

On the fence (so to speak!), wonder what the price is...

Nice tool but....I just bought the new square to go along with my 851. I think I'll spend the money on some new router bits :)

4 Parf of Quas dogs, or two of each if you want, perfectly square every time, for like 40.00 and totally useful for other things on the table

Over the past year I have been getting a funny vibe from Woodpecker that they think Festool users have more money than sense. This settles it in my mind. I'm sure i'm like a lot of you who have bought many Festools over the years and over time you become somewhat numb to the irrational, sometimes abusive, prices Festool will assign to things. I think even a hardened Festooligan would acknowledge that this $270 price tag "shocks the conscience".

someone pls enlighten me, why make this in a modular construction if it can be  "knocked out of square" why not just leave it as one solid billet piece, its sole purpose is to square up projects and equipment? it looks very pretty but im doing fine with my 5 dollar speed square from lowes.

They are missing an opportunity:  It should be available in a Systainer for storage.  IMHO.

In the end user classes we used a 1281 square so I got one. Worked good in squaring my MFT. Then they came out with that 45 CM triangle I got that to square up the MFT does a outstanding job, I also ordered their speed square.

I'm just about squared out.

Adjustable squares are actually better - a solid billet could be dropped and then you are out the money with no easy way to re-square.  An adjustable square gives you that option.

I have the 26" Woodpecker's square and have been very happy with it for both MFT as well as other work.  This square seems to be of more limited use.  Cool design, yes, but pricey for what I consider to be less broad utility than Woodpecker's other squares.

A nice tool but I don't think that it appears to provide any more functionality than either the 18 inch triangle or the 26 inch square (I have both).

I think I will pass.

Neil,

I agree with you on the above.  This square is good for the intended purpose, and yes, you can check for squareness of other tools or projects.  But that is all it does....

It has no functionality as a measuring device however, and to me that is where it falls short!  I have the 1281, and just purchased the 600mm square.  Either of those will serve me well for squaring the MFT, as well as measuring tool....

anyhow i have a hard time buying into it being out of square if its made out of 5 lbs worth of stainless steel if dropped. IF it does bend!? being .001 off its a tool made to square off tools for mostly wood type applications will not effect my work imo. my speed square been dropped and ran over with dings all over and measures out fine. anyhow this isnt for me esp for the price.
