Workshop sooner?!

thats killer!!! the footings are pretty big what was the PSF of the soil? I'am surprised there was no soil bracing. Why did you go with CMU?

Solid clay ground no need for bracing. Their is a 15-20metre drop at bottom
Of our garden which jcb dug which has no support or anything just cliff face clay.

Their use to be a building already in its place with single 100mm block wall no steel or concrete and been there for. 20years or so I wasn't worried about it caving in on me.

Their is steel inside the blocks 12mm bars, gotta tie some more to them though just bellow block line do that before infill with concrete.

Their is also horizontal steel bars on every course but that was my idea as its not been specified on the structural engineers drawing to have horizontal bars on every course.

Footings spec was c40 concrete with all that steel and its 900mm deep in the toe and 500mm deep in the heal 2metre wide that's strong enough to build a multi storage car park lol. Then just a simple hollow blocks wall with concrete from one extreme to another lol.

A bit annoyed to day!   Few weeks ago bought some tanking to tank the building as its part underground!!

Well cost £4100!  [scared]  Well thought Gotta do it so bought the stuff.

Well to day ran out of some of the stuff!  So called up to get some more got a price £1140    I was like thats just crazy really for one Roll of felt and 15kg tube of glue.

DeanSocial found another Company which sold the same stuff!  So I gave them a call £500 loads cheaper!!!!

So based on that I could of saved over £2000.   Cant believe I have been ripped of so badly!!!!!!

Not only that this company Dean Social found said they will do next day delivery and gave me price over the phone in seconds.

Bio Kill always took hours or so to get me a price on items which should be stock items which I found odd also they always asked me when I wanted it for before giving me a price because the more urgent I was for the stuff the more it would cost me.

The Company which Ripped me off is   BioKill Crown   website: http://www.esecure.co.uk/newbiokilshop/building.asp?menu=2

Bio Kill Crown will tell you they make ALL their own stuff which is load of rubbish because when it arrives they just stick their own stickers calling it something completely different to what it actually says on the tin.

They told me the other company must of made a mistake no way they can sell if for that cheap because we sell it to them at that price so they would be making a loss.  Which I find hard to believe.   Dean called up other day and got same price as I did to day so they must be making a mistake every day.

AVOID Bio Kill Crown  MASSIVE RIP OFF and LAIRS!

This site has quite a good range
I presume given you mention felt that you are doing external tanking, are you putting in drainage round the back of the wall then gravel/some well draining material

Re rip off company, ask for a partial refund or some bad publicity.. Their choice, what you got to loose?

Cheers keep them in mind.

Yeah out side tanking I thought I rather keep the damp out rather than letting it in in the first place.

Yeah doing draining I'm sticking two drain pipes in just for good measure plus 400mm + wide gravel behind the wall. Footings slope slightly down away from the back aswell keep the brick layers happy to level the blocks up lol.

I sent biokill a email saying what I thought of them and asking for a part refund.  I would normally get email back or call few hours later but not heard anything back of them...  I sent email this morning.

I got my tanking stuff half price delivered this morning ordered it yesterday 2 o'clock ish I think brilliant service at a fair price from John Newton.

Biokill wanted to know how urgent I wanted it before they could tell me price and when could deliver so they could increase the price I think.  In the end they said Thursday.  At the price they wanted it I should had it delivered in a few hours.

Cant believe the amount of steel and the grade of concrete specced , methinks your engineer just over specified rather than spend time doing any proper calcs . When i built an extension on my house i had to have it piled due to bad ground , I got 5 quotes and there was a £10 k difference between highest and lowest . You gotta shop around after all its has to be passed by building control and guaranteed .

Ditto on that JMB. I built a house in earthquake country (maybe 60 miles form the San Andreas?) with concrete roof tiles and all, and didn't need near that amount of rebar in the ground. Course we're on 92% adobe clay too. Lemme see if I can dig up a picture you:

Here ya go, this was the worst of it, but it's the posts that hold up the only second floor room in the house.

Lol not alot of steel.    Thing is dont think the structural engineer knows how much steel and everything's costs.

It's really expensive especially if you need it bending.   Plus take long time to tie it all together.

I reduced the footing in length he wanted it 10metre long down one side and 6metre the other. I reduced it to 3metre down one side and 6metre down the other and changed to normal footings.   The ground is level with floor slab at 3 metres on one side so why does footings need to be 6metre. the other side at about 6metre ground it only 600mm heigh don't need footings 10metee that big for ground that height.

Would of added alot more cost in steel time and concrete.

.

With the shuttering I was like alot of steel and cost in wood and my time etc he said only bit of shuttering. For a large job shuttering is good but a small job its alot of work and cost.  With stupid upstand in footings with water bar etc.

Well Im REALLY REALLY GLAD that I Bought my AVANT!  (FORK LIFT)

It has come in LOADS!  I has saved LOADS of money on hiring and labour on the job!   Also made my life easier!

Also with wood deliveries I have had for jobs  mainly sheets material saved me ages unloading manually! Just do it in seconds unloading 30 sheets with Avant.

Before had to hand ball sheet at a time with the Delivery guys help!   Bet they are happy I can now simply unload the trucks. Then once unloaded often move them about to where I wanted them!

Some pictures of the Machine in action lol!     Every person I meet says what is da never seen that machine before.  Handy Little machine.

Handy yoke alright! Is jcb decked off yet?

No!  We won but JCB saying NO.    Everybody knows what JCB are like, Arrogant, bullies, stuck up they think they can do what they want.  We aint backing down.

We offered a solution.  They said NO we have done enough talking and that was it!  We offered this after we received the letter from land registry saying its defiantly our land not JCB's since a long time ago ill find wa date they said cant remember.

Any way JCB would of received the same letter as us but obviously had not read it yet! Well 20mins later we got a call back saying okay we will look at your solution but doesn't change anything we are still saying its our land.

They are coming next week.  So we will see!

Tell ya how bad JCB employes can get!  I dont understand it but any one who works for JCB thinks they are something they think they have the power!  Its strange but ALOT of people who go work for JCB get this power thing!

Well.    In my little village we have a little farm shop!    Well the owner decided to have an event for machinery at the farm shop!

Mainly farm machinery but fork lifts etc would be at the event!   Well a JCB manager heard about the event and told the Farm shop owner to NOT host the even because there would be NON JCB machinery to close the JCB and on the road they call..... (get back to you on da I forgot what they call the two main roads).

The farmer said no so the JCB manager said if you dont stop the event I will tell everybody at JCB to never use your farm shop.

---------------

Another Fact!    If your working near JCB in the view of the public and your using NON JCB Diggers!   JCB rush over ask you to remove the NON JCB digger of the Job and then offer replacement JCB digger for a month or so to use on the Job.

Best thing to do is hire a NON JCB digger for one day!  Then end up having a JCB digger to finish the job off for free.

Well at least they are beginning to be less pushy. Did u start up the CNC yet? That laptop stand I made would be perfect for. A CNC

No not yet!  [crying]  As said before Farmer being a * * * * not letting us dig 1 metre into his field!  The electrical company called up he told them NO.  So we asked him he said yeah no problem! We offered £500 say thanks.    The electrical company called up again to get his permission and to sign  he said NO again. WTF?!

So he says one thing to your face and another when your not their!  So waiting for electrical company to get back to us again going the other route.

I have just decided to let it go and just go with the flow!  I wanted the building and roof on by now but the harder I try and push to get it done the more things pop up to slow it down!

So just getting on with my jobs I have and do odd days on workshop.

How's the workshop coming along?

On hold dude.

For many reasons! To many to explain!  All to make me go  [mad] BOOM!

On the upside getting few jobs out of the way before I start the build again!  Should be starting it hopefully in 2weeks time fingers crossed!

3phase notice has gone up! So telling the electrical company our rights has given the electrical company a kick in the right direction. They finally went round to the farmers and they have put up notices that work will commence on certain date.

I can't believe we payed the electrical company thousands of pounds in November last year and they where farting around saying that we needed to deal with farmer etc to  simply showing them we mean business and that we are getting legal help etc to get them to do something.
