Lol nice story again lol.

I did my accidents driving forgetting that my digger arm was fully extended.  I just needed to move a little over and then! bang oops lol.

All came down to rushing to be honest with me.

Got a new toy coming soon!  Hopefully next week!   I'll be more carefull with this one though as its mine and not on hire!

That Avant looks cool, especially all the attachments, huge range, could do with a shaper and re-saw attachment, and maybe on of those tree felling arms!

Yeah it is cool.  Never heard of them till couple weeks ago!    I looked into them and they seemed good!  They are made in Finland so thought must be alrite.     Was tlking to my cousin who is a farmer/groundsman and said he seen them and knows couple people who own one and he says they get some right battering smashed up etc but they keep on running he says they seem well made.

Then a Avant dealer sent me a catalogue and I saw all the attachments I was like wow it can do alot more than just moving stuff!

So decided it was the machine for me!  [big grin]

Unfortunately due to the weather the job has come to a stop.  Its way to cold to lay bricks.

So now decided to go a different way to build the workshop.    Worked it out to be a cheaper method ( I HOPE)  quicker! and not so weather dependent!

Going hire lots of shuttering and concrete pour the first ground floor walls.

I watched the videos today, and you will be getting a machine that has alot of possibilities.  Interestingly, here in the US they have been marketed under a different name (Gehl) for years but just in October 2012 they opened a US Division.

Have fun, and I am looking forward to your posts about the progress of your shop.

Hi JMB

This weather is a real pain - I am freezing in the workshop!

If you are going to use concrete instead of bricks and mortar won't you have problems with the planning or building regs people?

Shouldn't be a problem as it was going to be built with concrete blocks and mortar and then part rendered and part cladding   So no different really.  Just going to be stronger and quicker to erect.

As it was going to be built with 9inch wide concrete blocks  bricklayers where looking forward to them weighing at about 40 kg or so each each lol

JMB,
Good call on the concrete. Much stronger.

There was a lot of talk a few posts back about insulation. I think it was mostly about insulating the above grade walls. If you are going to be working in basement, you should insulate on the outside of the foundation as well.  It will turn the concrete into basically a heat sink and you will keep a more even temp thru the winter and it will stay drier (the walls won't sweat) during humid summer months.  I know you don't get much rain in your area,  ::) but sometimes weather can get t be , er, ah, unusual. [unsure]

Yeah that's the plan.  Going to tank the concrete any way to stop damp coming through but also stick insulation around the outside of the building.

I want the keep the work shop an average house temperature so the wood I store in the workshop is kept nice and warm.  Also so I am nice and warm.  Plus I am planning on running the CNC 24hours if I can if I get enough work for it ofcourse so anything to sound proof the building more is a bonus!

I will be enclosing the cnc inside the workshop aswell to sound proof it more mainly for me so when the machine is running I can shut the door and work in peace on another job or something instead of hearing the bloody thing screaming at me.

Good call on the Avant. i've had a 528 model for about 5 years now. They are very rare here in France and I had to buy a fair few attachments in the UK. To get pallet forks here they wanted me to buy an expensive roof. When I called the reseller in the UK and ordered them, I asked him about a roof. He said, 'if you've a problem with a roof, call a roofer :)'
It is a fantastic bit of kit, very versatile. The only down side is that the filters over here cost a fortune - £250 for all the filters for the last service I did.
Enjoy.

Great build JMB! I took the plunge and built a workshop this time last year. Its a very modest timber frame building inside a farmers hanger!
I would love a CNC (I keep looking but the one I want is out of range at the minute) I bought a decent second hand felder panel saw to keep me going.
I just wish I had built a seperate room for a small spray booth!! Would you not consider doing this??

Anyway has the CNC arrived??? what is it???

Keep the posts coming!

Ah, Don't bother closing it in for sound.  Don't even were ear muffs and pretty soon, your ears will be ringing loud enough to drown out the sound of the CNC.  I grew up when nobody wore ear protection.  Ran machinery all my life.  Now, I think it's spring time year round when I hear the peepers singing all the time.    [unsure]

Not bad price for what it is.  Cost me £18800ish  +Vat    which includes the forks, bucket and counter weights.

No CNC not arrived just was told might be coming on the 17th but not totally set just yet.

Its a MultiCam cnc

Yeah defiantly doing a spray booth BUT am looking at it so that it can be part of the workshop if I want  but then with shutters OR a curtain shut the area off for spraying.  Just because its not a very large workshop  would be nice if it was big enough to have solid separate rooms for everything.
