I'm wondering what would be the best way to sand a heart pine ceiling so it can be stained white?

Questions. Are you looking to get to bare wood, then Stain White to get some wood grain showing?
Rotex 150, with Granat or Saphir to strip the existing finish off. Granat or Rubin to sand the bare wood. Use Pad Protector to keep from hitting the adjacent walls if you're keeping the finish on them.
Overhearing sanding won't be fun due to the weight of a big Rotex. But, it will strip and sand the ceiling well except corners.

Could you get an LS130 for the T[member=60561]G[/member] sections?  That part would not be fun sanding by hand, or with the DC-less multitool.

The rotex is a little bit heavy after a while. The client wants bare wood so the grain will show through the white.
I will look into the soda blasting if she wants the kitchen done. But does anyone think a plainex will cut it? I used 60 grit on the walls and it worked well.

If it is not geared, then there are lighter sanders which also remove faster.

Planning ahead...

There is Granat for the Planex. I've sanded small floor areas with the Planex.

Good Point. When I first read his post, the mere thought of the job made me really tired..., so I didn't reply for awhile.  [scared]

This is pretty straight forward until you throw in the tongue and groove part.  [eek]

You can sand the bejesus out of the ceiling and still not touch the tender areas that are indeed the most important areas to clean. The T&G areas...soda blast.

I felt the same way. She a great client of mine and is hands on.  I dropped a CT 36, RO 150, DTS 400 and a R090 off 3 months ago for her.  So far she has the living room and 2 bedroom walls done.
I was going to spend a few days next week and hopefully knock it out but the ceiling was going to be the pain.  The walls work great with the 150 and DTS 400 for the T&G.  Doing 60 grit on the stripping for the flats and 80 on the T&G area.

I just had a thought, how about grinding a carbide scraper to fit the T&G area.

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] one could also make the leap from scraping the grooves, to scraping the boards, or taking to them with an electric planer. I have no experience in this, but it seems possible.

Unless I was desperate for work I couldn't imagine the aches and pains I'd put my body through sanding a ceiling in Rotex mode with 60 grit. Get bids to have the ceiling blasted. Your body will thank you.

That is what was called a time and material job way back when.  Hope they like white.....
