CTL SYS arrived today!!!!!!!!!!

I just did a conversion based on the British pound.  What the pricing will eventually be here - who knows.  We have benefitted from agressive pricing  in the past based on what has been written from members all over the world.  Who knows, It might end up being less expensive.

Taking pricing aside, Festool apparently is in tune with what users are desiring.  Should be interesting to see this and also what is next whereas their development cycle is multiple years long and I have be told to expect an exciting 2015 with no details.

Quick question #needleman in one of the pictures it looks the hose is plugged into the side of the sys thru an opened grilled door. Is this the exhaust vent? Does it allow it to be used as a blower?

I admit that I went looking for a post that I swore Phil made.  Maybe it was my imagination, but somewhere I read that the exhaust port could utilize the hose like the older CT models could.  I only remember that because I found it odd whereas the designers eliminated that function from the newer CT models.  If the grate is hinged and a hose will fit then you have the answer though.

Lucky guys.  I can't wait to see that over here.

When the grill is opened the hose can be attached so it acts as a blower - same as a previous series of extractors.

Phil,

Did you say that before or was it a dream and Elvis or Bigfoot told me?  [scared]

Peter

Sure was not Elvis but it was my size 12's mentioning it earlier on [smile].

Yes this outlet is a blower just like the older CT22/33/44 models.

Pretty much every cheap shop vac and small power tool you own has one of these cooling fans-so to promote this feature as something special is a bit of a gimmick.
You right. I think this is no gimmick: stl sys hasn't bypass cooling and bypass value really need, as they need for home vacuum cleaners :(

Thats it ordered, just awaiting Warrens phone call now to say its on its way  [thumbs up]

I hope [member=1674]Peter Halle[/member] is RIGHT and we will see the CTL SYS in the USA soon!

Also wonder is the shoulder strap will be available as an accessory? If not I guess it could be ordered as a replacement part. It would be a nice option to add to some existing systainers, as needed.

I certainly would love to have one to save more space in my workshop. That would enable me to get rid of my shop vac that I use to clean the floor once in a while....

Used my new ctl sys for the first time today. It’s a nice little vac.
I do really like the way it fits in with the rest of the systainers.

I used it with a sander and for general clean-up. Works great.

It is about the same dimensions as the mini, without wheels that is.
So I guess it is rather bulky relatively speaking. That is mainly because there is an empty sys 1 on top. It’s great for storage and transport, but when I use it I want it to be as compact as possible.

The bag is really small, I’m definitely buying the long-life bag, problem solved

I love the fact that the hose-garage comes of. Than you really have a compact vac

When you use the vac unit alone the power plug needs some attention. It is clearly designed to be used wth the garage sys on top in wich case the cord is secured by the top systainer. When the vac unit is used solo the cord tends to slip out and the plug gets pulled out sideways. That’s no good. There should be some stress protection on the cord.

Very glad that the blowing facility is back. When you use the air outlet it is immediately clear that the airflow goes through the motor. The air from the outlet is significantly hotter than the surrounding air.

The bypass consists of a valve to the dust bag compartment. When the pressure in the compartment gets to low the valve opens and lets in air into the dust bag compartment.

[attachimg=4]

Do not open the lid of the vac when the backdoor is open, you’ll wreck it.

[attachimg=5]

When one uses the strap or the extra front handle ( ZSG –Sys ½ TL/1) there is the danger of blocking the air outlet when you place it in the ground while it’s running.
The air outlet is on the opposite side.

I want to use it when ever I work in tight spaces or on ladders and such. The smaller the better. I prefer to use it without the empty sys 1 on top. Nice and compact.
I guess my favourite using position would be with the vac upright with the controls on top. This way the footprint of the machine is the smallest. The hose connection is the lowest so it will not easily be pulled over. And the controls are best to reach. In this position the air outlet will not get blocked.

[attachimg=9]

But how do I handle it, there is nothing to grab, where is the handle?

When I got back in my shop this afternoon I immediately attacked my problem. I made a handle from some scrap material.  Haven’t had time to put a lot of thoughts in it but it works. Better start to optimize the design.

Obviously there will be far better ways to handle the single vac-unit. Any thoughts any one?

The Festool designers must have set out to make the vac as small as possible. The main design focus however seems to have been the use with the hose garage on top ... that way it gets’s about 40% bigger than it needs to be. I hope Festool adapts the design to also optimize the use of the single vac unit.

All in all it is a great little machine, I’m sure it will be my most used vac on the job.

Henrik, I would not like to place the vac on it's air outlet, it would get blocked.
