Face frame units

Yeah you can round it over the stuff I ordered from Cutwrights came with a small radius. Obviously you lose a tiny bit of the tape but its not a problem

Picked up all the beech today and it looks great.

Also had time to domino all the shelves about 317 holes ,not that I'm counting lol. Again my holey bench came in handy. A few dogs and clamps hol the shelves in place. I marked positions for all the holes on the bench then its just a matter of machining the holes then clamp the next shelf and do the same again following the marks on the bench.

Gonna need some advice RE the face frame. I can post some pics later but here's what i m thinking will work.

I can fix the 20x44mm shelf edges before the carcases are fitted. Then I might domino the edges of the wide pilaster/stile sections. Then I'm hoping I can fit one carcass, fit the stile onto the shelf edge ends then slide the next carcass up dominoed into the stile again. Then screwing the carcases together should pull the joints up I hope.

Another option is to just glue the shelf edges to the stile and not domino it.

It's not something I've done before. I've done single face frames but this one is over 3 carcases and nearly 4m long so couldn't be made up whole with pocket holes.

Hope this all makes sense and I will try to post a sketch up later

You will need an infill for the Blum hinges as the face frame will be wider than the
Carcase
Are the doors inset or overlay

Here you go some rough sketchup. The blue bits are the fluted stiles. Red are shelf edges that are flush on face with stiles and the yellow ones are set back behind the stiles flush with the carcase.

Hopefully you can see what needs to be done any tips or advice ?

Hinges sorted thanks. Blum inset with 3mm spaced plates :). Ordered from m and d online delivered next day before 9 very good service

Ok but if the pilaster is wider than the carcass it will need a packing strip

No the carcases have a 44mm gap between, carcase 18mm leaves 4mm reveal so 3mm plate will easily cope with that

Ok that makes sense

I like these progress build type posts

Wish I was organised enough to post mine

Cool. Would like to help if I can

Have you sorted your LED lighting yet
Yeah that's how I got the job funny enough. A friend of mine is a sparks and he is doing all the lighting so recommended me to make the units. Hes using led tape

Another quick PIC of my idea to domino the fluted stiles in between the rails of either unit. The last stile scribed to the wall will have to just push in from the front (no domino).

Or do I just butt and glue it all ?

Why don't you domino the stile from the front so you can tap it on after
Same as the shelves ?

Yeah I had thought that, I was just trying to make sure the joint was flush where it meets the rail. I'm sure  it'd be fine .

I would put a domino in end of rails but these things never go together as easy as planned on site so you could then leave it out if it was causing a problem or cut it short and taper the end to help guide it in, dominos will help line things up. On similar builds I have sometimes just put some fix all or similar on the back of the stiles and put a few pins through the front to fix them on, once you start using grooves etc things can get hard to line up.

Doug

My thoughts exactly Doug, I think if I try to be too clever it could be a pain to put together.

It's all being painted so pinning isn't a problem it can all be filled.

I only stopped to think this afternoon I've got 37 shelves to edge [emoji54] I said I'd start fitting Monday and I've still got a lot to do. Better pull my finger out lol
