Festool drill accessory

I was looking at the plunge bases on the vecturo and the  festool router and started thinking, why don't they make a plunge base for the Festool Drills.

A fixed base would give you a dead-on accurate 90 degree hole to the surface being drilled. An adjustable base could be tilted to give accurate angled drill holes. A plunge feature would give you accurate depth of the hole being drilled. You could also figure out a alignment jig similar in principle to the domino that would give you evenly spaced drilled holes. Maybe even an attachment for the festool track for drilling a series of aligned holes.

Funny you should mention that, I was browsing the tool section in bunnings the other day and came across something very similar for less than $10, for that price I had to take a closer look, it was mostly metal and looked well made,  I thought for that price if you need to drill some straight holes and you haven't got a press this would do defiantly the job.

Yes DB, well as Sparktrician said, "!!!!!! ----- mmmm!", or could have said,  "what a price difference."  [eek] [smile]

Found a Festool one on Ideal Tools website, but still could not find it on Festool AUS site.

I'm sorry, but anyone who buys the Festool GD320 at £220 (>$300) must need their bumps feeling.  [eek]

Whilst I am more than happy with my Festool stuff and accept the premium price asked, that is just too much for what it is. You would have to be seriously loaded or a major Festool Fanboy to warrant paying that sort of money for a mini drill press.  [jawdrop]

If ANYONE were to be the one to go after the Festool GD320 as a diseased Green addict...it would be ME [scared]  That being said, I do have a very small bit of brain left to realize that some things are just out of control, and the GD320 is one of those!  Hence, I posted the previous Amazon offering which will solve my need for this type of product for very little cost...and it's "sort of" Green anyway! [big grin]

Cheers,
Frank

Actually the Mafell is twice or thrice the machine compared to the Protool version and there's only a $140 difference in price. The Protool just looks like a guzzied-up Wolfcraft. So if I ocassionaly needed one, I'd spend $25 for the Wolfcraft but If I used it all the time, I'd go for the Mafell. This Mafell stuff is looking better all the time. [smile]

Well, that pleasantly surprised me, after reading your post about the cordless drills, I was expecting to get a roasting.  [embarassed]

Well... this is an accessory that seems like it would be a perfect fit for WoodPeckers to design and produce....either for regular stock, or as a One Time Tool.  Probably would still be somewhat expensive, but would be precise, and probably less expensive than Festool's.

Not by much, m' friend.  And a Domino at $880 is FAR more useful in my work.  $540 - $760 for a simple-arsed drill stand is past ludicrous and into lunatic.  A drill press is far more useful and far less spendy.

The drilling accessory is really designed for accurately drilling deep straight holes, and was probably originally designed for timber framing. Trying to move a drill press around on the ground can be annoying enough, let alone trying to use one to drill beams that may already be in place.

There also doesn't seam to be a middle ground version between the Festool/Protool/Mafell types and the Wolfcraft type versions.

The accessory does a function similar to a frame mounted core drill and if you've ever seen the price on a quality core drill, it would wind up being as costly, or more costly, than a Festool corded drill plus the drilling frame. The Mafell drilling jig actually looks like it may be a modified frame from a core drilling jig.

The drill guide at the bottom of the Festool one is interesting idea for keeping it running straight.
