FOG lagging very much last 3 days

Yeah, I think whatever was going on stopped around 5pm Eastern.

Keep me posted if it happened again, guys. Sorry again for the trouble. With intermittent problems, it's sometimes difficult to troubleshoot.

It's been slow for me most of the day.  Does not seem to matter if it is a long thread or a short thread. Ever click to bring up a page takes a long time.  It got a bit faster in the past 30 minutes briefly but it's not at the performance I usually see on FOG.

Thanks for diagnosing, Shane -

Well - now it's running faster - click a link and the page loads in a couple of seconds versus 30-45 seconds.

Not sure if anything has changed in hosting environment but it's much faster!

Working great here at the moment.

So the truth is now obvious Peter, as it is very fast down here too. And it certainly was slow this morning  AESST. The truth may be that it speeds up when our North American friends go to sleep!    [smile]  [big grin]

It is interesting however that when it seems slow, there is usually under 300 members logged in. Interesting to see what speed would be if members logged in was around the record of just over 1000.

It had different hosting arrangements then so it would not be a valid observation other than to indicate that things might have been better then.

It has improved!

Before I was able to make a cup of tea every time I clicked to go onto another page.  [tongue]

Now I can only blink slowly and it's loaded up

There were times that if I blinked that slowly my eyes would dry up !

It is pretty good now.

It was x-tremely slow for me yesterday afternoon.  I had just gotten home from a trip and only tried for a short time around noon.  I had a lot of other things (pertaining to computer work) to take care of the rest of the day so ignored the FOG.  It is now working fine.

Well, the diagnostics I did yielded nothing to indicate a connectivity issue.

I'm looking now at server configuration. We may have been bumping the limit on concurrent connections, so I've increased that. Let's see how it goes.

Shane, there's a function in SMF (Features and Options, Layout) that's "display time it takes to create every page".

Maybe turn it on for a few days and see what users report when it gets slow? It should report a query count and a time.

If it shows high, it's most likely a database issue with queries being delayed and stacking up. I don't think it can't measure the queue depth on the HTTP server side, but I could be wrong.

Thanks, I've gone deeper that the page render time and have watched the actual server performance figures. CPU, RAM, database activity, etc. is all nominal.

Right, but a low resource usage + a high page load time as we've been seeing would indicate a config/setup that's artificially holding back page load performance in high traffic times.

I think I asked this earlier, but there's a few tables that SMF suggests converting from MyISAM to Innodb since MyISAM only allows table locking vs. row locking on Innodb. I made that change on my own server and the speed difference was pretty dramatic when traffic got high.

Also feel free to tell me stop poking in your business.

Feel free to share your input, especially since it seems you have your own SMF forum.

I did read about converting the DB engine for some tables but I can't remember if I've already done it or not. I'll check though.

I noticed that the number of concurrent connections was maxing out at 256, which was what apache was set to. I bumped it to 1000 this morning and now there are 300+ connections on average all the time.

If you just made that concurrent connection change, Shane, it appears to have made a dramatic difference.

It took me a few tries that never connected to get to this thread and now everything is zipping along - at least, seemingly...

From ~1:45 to ~2:15PM ET today the FOG was unusable it was so slow.  Seems to be working now though.

Doing some work on the server, which may cause the forum to be slow/unresponsive at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience.
