Hi,

Neither!   I have ordered and awaiting for delivery of the   H&S  Contractor Chisels in Orange

http://www.haroldandsaxon.com/product-range/

Total cost properly about £600  with shipping costs and import tax!   Im hoping its going to be less!

I ordered and payed deposit on the 15 January!  so some waiting to do  said it would take 12-16weeks.

I hope so!  They are costing me a lot!

Just sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo  long before ill be getting them!  It did  put me off but then decided they are the chisels for me!

I called Trent to make sure everything was okay and all  cus I hate emailing all the time! Very chatty person! Not great when making long distance calls! (another cost to add to the total cost of the chisels lol)

Shame about the long shipping - that oak porch would have liked a touch or two from them chisels.

Yeah would of been perfect!   The marple chisels I got didnt hold the edge very long doing the mortise holes (by hand  [tongue])

Yip not cheap  [sad] but they are the only ones I can find which match what I want in specification!

I more worried about loosing one cus I do look after my tools (for first few months  [tongue])  just tend to miss place them sometimes very annoying

Well the other ones I looked at were the Japanese ones! You should have a look at them then they are a little cheaper and can be bought in UK no need to import.

I use to love my marples but when working with OAK the edges just dont last very long I have altered the angle to a much steeper angle which has improved the retention of the edge alot better.     They last a very long time with Cedar though lol!

I don't work in a workshop, can they withstand sometimes being battered with a Estwing?  [big grin]

Another source of high quality Chisels is Barr Quarton...maker of hand forged, beautifully balanced chisels, gouges and slicks, etc.. They come to you already flattened and honed, ready to go to work.
www.barrtools.com  they are located in McCall, Idaho.....USA

Though I've not participated this tread until now, I have been following it with interest nevertheless. I was looking for some chisels too! The japanese ones have been greatly appealing but knew that the hollow backs are definitely not for me and they come in pricey like some of the other manufactures mentioned here too. Too pricey as I was in the market for a set. Not a set of four, six or eight but for the "full monty" (as my final choice were advertised [laughing]) A friend of mine had recommended Narex already about a year ago and while following this tread and chipping away (with) my three old Erik Anton Berg's the time had come and I ordered them. Many thanks for all people here participating, as always, very helpful narrowing down my thoughts to what I need, would like and can afford.

Kind regards,
Mauri

The Narex chisels are getting some interest here as well.  At least you spent you money on another TTS company product!

Just for fun:  The Narex Song
