I'm so glad I have 10 foot ceilings!

Well guys, I did it.  I ordered the FS 3000/2 (118") rail.  I received it yesterday.  I have to admit, I was a little worried about this rail being shipped.

Since Sean over at Toolnut posted the photos of what they did with the damaged rails.  [eek]

But after Sean told me that the rail would be shipped from Indiana, and I live in Ohio, I wasn't too worried about the journey the rail would take.

For the past couple of years I would connect two FS 1400/2 rails for longer rips in plywood.  I use my Parallel guides a lot!  And with moving the connected

rails on and off the plywood the added weight of the Parallel guides would some times cause the connection to bow.  Leading to a lot of foul language

and neighbors giving me funny looks  [embarassed].

At any rate, here are some photos of the rail and the package it ships in.  I know, it's a simple guide rail but I also know you guys love to look at photos.

I'm so happy that I have 10 foot ceilings.  [big grin]  It's gonna make storing this bad boy a lot easier.

Now, if I only needed to use the rail.  [huh]    It's funny how I seem to buy things AFTER a project is done. 

But I know some day I will use it.  My Mother is planning on me building her kitchen cabinets.  So it will definitely be used then.

I put quarter inch luan on both sides of the pine box they sent it in replacing the cardboardish stuff they used. I left about 1.5' open so I can slide the rail in and out along with my 55 rail and the 2' rail.  Works great for transporting in my trailer or truck if I'm on the go.  I thought about using some small hinges and latch instead of leaving it open, but it's worked great thus far. Enjoy that long bad boy, joining rails is annoying as I'm sure you know.

 Yep, He's one of the three dogs we have.    All three of our dogs are rescued dogs.  We have  two male pits.  The guy I use in my profile

picture ( Calvin is his name)  was a baiting  dog.  Meaning he was going to be used in practice fights for the prize dog to kill.  When we rescued him he was

only 22 pounds.  That  was about 5 years ago, he is now 55 pounds!  We started as foster parents with him, but he grew on me and the wife and we had

to keep him.  The other male pit named Henry was left in a abandoned house.  The female her name is Isabella she is a German short hair pointer mix.  

She's the boss.

Nice to have.  I recently got a 118" rail also.  Wasn't really thinking when I ordered it with only 9' ceilings.  I just modded the shipping container a bit and screwed it to the ceiling to get it out of the way.  I was figuring on it being temporary,  but it worked out well.

I think I figured out where to store mines at.
They are beautiful rails, but they are difficult to find a place to store that is out of the way yet convenient to use after puling them down from the area where they will store safely.

I used mine the other day to break down a sheet of walnut ply with the PGs, and man that combo cut accurately.

Far better then i could could get on my table saw

I was going to hang mine using the hole on the top next to the rails  I have already hanging.  But I would have to move some stuff around so I went this route.

Since I'm remodeling my shop, the wall was bare anyways.  I'll work with this for a while and see how I like it.

It looks like your cutting table is a take down type?  If you ever  put a permanent one in it's place  add a shelf just below the top for the long rail. It stores in a handy place and is also handy enough to be a place to put it between cuts.

Seth, that is the idea.

My shop has a 4x18' cutting table because we generally start with 4x10' plywood and use the cutting table for odd angle parts. Both of the long sides have shelves similar to the one Seth showed us. One runs the full 18' length to hold our 5000mm rail. On the other side of the table we keep a 3000mm rail on the shelf, with room for a 1900mm rail in addition.

At the highest part of our roof trusses we have about 17', but anywhere we were to hang rails from there would cause a traffic nightmare.

  That's a great idea you have.

    Yes, my table I use to break down sheet goods has to be stored away for the wife to get her car inside the garage.  [mad]  [crying]

I have thought about making a new table with a shelf like you have so when I do use my rails I can set them on the shelf.
