Is there an after market replacement pad for the RS2e half sheet sander?

That could be a little difficult. I checked EKAT and that part is no longer available. According to Google AI, the part number for that pad is 483679.

Festool.com has it listed so I seems that it should be available somewhere. You might have to look The Hard Way by calling long-term dealers around the country to see if they have old stock of it.

My search did come up with this on eBay:

There's also this thread here on FOG that may give you some leads:

Oh, never mind - I see that you were the OP in that thread.

Lastly, I did find some RS2E pads at a salvage store called Mardens in Scarborough, Maine (specifically that location) back in mid-late October. When I was there they had an insane amount of abrasive stock, as well as a couple replacement pads. I'm going to presume that since not many people use the RS2E they might still have them. Not sure if they will check if you call (or ship to you), but if you have any emissaries that might be a possibility.

Otherwise, I'm afraid the only option might be The Hard Way. Perhaps focus on legacy dealers that are paint stores. The inventory at Mardens came from a paint store whose warehouse had a fire and the insurance had been claimed and they took all the stock and sold it to Mardens.

Finally, it might be worth a call to Festool USA Customer Service. I typically have been ordering EKAT parts from my local dealer and I was trying to get some base rings for the OF2200. When my dealer ran the part number, it came back as No Longer Stocked. Strange. So I called up FTCS and the guy was kind enough to send them to me. Can't say that will happen, but it's best to exhaust all your options.

Good Luck!

I've been trying to get one for a while with no luck. I did buy a pad off ebay marked as RS2 but that turns out the mounting hole is slightly different. The rep at Festool also was of no help as he thought that same pad was compatible.

I don't know if the pad mounting holes design changed at some point or it's just unobtanium, but for us in Oz it's proved very difficult to find the info or the pad.

This is the one I bought that has the same part number as Onocoffee supplied, but it doesn't fit my RS2E (which I bought 40+ years ago): https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/376325727769

Festool will be of no help. They don't track dealer stock. There are aftermarket that can work. Shame they don't stock these and I guess the 7 or 10 year parts availability on discontinued items is not true. I think these are still available in Europe from some dealers last I checked.

You're right...Festool doesn't track dealer inventory but it's a great place to start. If Festool no longer offers the item for sale, then you immediately know you might have some serious research to do and that it may lead you to options that you'd never otherwise explore.

I agree, the Festool claim of 10 years parts availability for obsoleted tools is rather lame and actually borders on an outright lie. 10 years parts availability is the Festool claim but there are items for the Vac Sys and the HL 850 that are no longer available, and neither of those tools have been dormant for 10 years. I've also run across others that fail the sniff test.:mad::mad:

@Cheese Maybe sounds like weasel contract print, but I always understood the 10 years spare parts warranty started from the tool sale date, not when it was discontinued?

Well that doesn't make any sense in that if a tool was produced for over 10 years (that'd probably include most Festool tools) Festool would no longer be responsible for providing parts because it's production period was now longer than it's spare parts period. 😵‍💫

Ok I actually looked it up and you're right, for us in Oz spare parts are guaranteed available for 10 years after a tool is discontinued: https://www.festool.com.au/festool-warranty

"10-Year Spare Parts Availability
We guarantee that spare parts will be available for a minimum of 10 years after a product is discontinued. If Euro Tooltechinc Pty Ltd is unable to keep its promise, you will receive a comparable new product from the current product range free of charge as a replacement in exchange for your original product."

May or not be worse for you guys though as the guaranteed parts print isn't really clear to me: https://www.festool.com/service-with-wai

"10 years replacement parts guarantee.
Your Festool tool is made for long life. Nevertheless, it may at some point be necessary to replace a part. This is why we guarantee the availability of every spare part for at least 10 years. If we don’t have the part you need in stock, you will receive a new tool from us free of charge."

Note it's quite vague, it doesn't explicitly say "After a product is discontinued"?

Now that's hilarious, I'm very tempted to order spare items for the Vac Sys, for the HL 850 and for the RAS 115 and then quote the above guarantee and monitor the results. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: If we're to believe Festool, I'd be suddenly 3 tools richer. (y)

We've got pretty strong trade laws here so it would be extremely difficult for them to find a way not to honour a published warranty statement, but I wonder what the criteria might be if there is any, need to have registered with them at very the least I would assume, maybe that would be enough. If they wanted receipts however that might be a bit more difficult.

And the RTS is about 1/3rd - 1/2 the cost of the RS2E, so you are on the losing end for sure - even though the RTS is a great sander in its own right. I bought an aftermarket and it seems to line up with the holes, etc... I kept it in its cellophane wrapping to help it last longer as these pads explode after 5-6 years and trying to keep one in stock so I can continue to use this sander. The RS2E is a gem of a sander and perfect for big flat areas like table tops, dresser tops, etc... I use it on all my projects that have big areas for the final sanding stages before finish. They are just not popular choices in NA for some reason - everyone thinks a 6 inch RO and you are good to go - and while they work great, if you want to keep something flat, the sheet sander is the way to go - no dips and valleys, no matter how minor, using that beast.

The sheer size, power and weight make it fantastic for panels, same to a great extent (but not as good) as the BS105 with the frame.

Doors are what I used to use the RS2E the most on to sand while keeping the surface flat.

With 40g/60g sheets it's also awesome for helping flatten slabs.

I have a 4" Milwaukee belt sander made by AEG and a 2-1/2" wide unit made by Porter Cable but never considered the RS2 to be the destructive equivalent of either one of them. Then again, I've never mounted anything coarser than 120 grit on the RS2. 🤷‍♂️

I just used the RS2E with P40 Rubin to sand off a maple board that had a poly coating on it. I feel that it took longer than a belt sander, but the results were nice.
