Look at this Mafell Craziness - MT55cc $598

ToolsToday is legit.

$598 is the price for the saw and one blade in a Systainer. The version with a guide rail is $713. With rail this item is drop shipped from (?) for $15.

Timberwolf is selling the same thing for the same price. I think in both cases and extra blade is included.

I suspect Mafell is discounting the corded Mt 55 in favor of the more than capable cordless version.

Interestingly, they seem to have adapted it to run on Festool rails, wonder when this happened. They've also got a cordless model now...

I saw the MT55cc at WTB Woodworking last week and I thought that was pretty interesting. From the factory, there's an insert that slides into that rail slot and is kept in place with screws. But if you want to use it with a Festool rail, you take it out and have this.

I remember quite a number of people say that the Mafell is better than the TS55 - if only I didn't have Christmas gifts to buy this month.

Interesting that Tools Today now offers Mafell......Tool Nut used to be a distributor but for some reason they were crossed off the list. I purchased both the MT55 cc and P1 cc from Tool Nut when they were on sale back in 2017. The MT55 cost $615 at the time so at $598 this is a steal.

The MT 55c is pretty nice but trying it side by side in person with the TS 60, the choice was clear. Having just broken down a dozen or so sheets of plywood for a set of cabinets, I'm also not sure I'd get the Mafell saw over the cordless TS 55.

Mafell has had a "Fan" campaign for a couple of months now in Europe. I bought the MT55cc for €482 in September. So I think this should be legit.

One of the reasons I went for the Mafell was its scoring capability and the fact that it fits the spare 1400 guide rails I had laying around doing nothing after buying the LR32 versions (should have done that to start with). The TS55 has a found new home in our house in Sweden now.

Hi @P_K,

It is my understanding that the MT-55cc has always had the groove to work with Festool/Makita/Hilti/Other tracks. My MT-55cc is from 2013 (in a Gen 1 Systainer) and it has the extra groove. It's a great feature, allows me to utilize the superior Mafell tracks for 95% of my work, but I do have the option to switch over to Festool tracks if I want to use my TSO parallel guides.

Hi @Cheese,

I spoke with the guys from Timberwolf Tools at AWFS earlier this year, it sounds like Mafell purchased Timberwolf Tools (who had previously purchased the exclusive distribution rights for Mafell in North America), so I wouldn't be surprise to see more of their "Group A" tools distributed through more vendors going forward.

Thanks for the additional information Tom...that starts to make more sense. I was quite surprised to see Tools Today selling Mafell and initially thought something was wonky. I always thought that Timberwolf tools was a bottleneck if you're trying to expand you market share in the US. Having said that, I have NO issues with Timberwolf tools and have only had positive experiences with the guys when I've had questions. Nick in particular has always been helpful and was more than willing to go the extra mile to answer my questions.

With the new ownership...maybe Mafell will now import the Erika. :)

Hi Cheese,

Unfortunately, I get the impression that the days of Erika availability in North America are over. As best as I can tell, Mafell no longer produces a 120V version, and my memory is that the shipping cost was ferocious. I think shipping cost close to $1k when I ordered mine close to ten years ago.

I suspect the best we can hope for is that Mafell eventually produces a dual-18V Erika (similar to their K 85-18), and then find someone willing to ship it.... I love my Erika 70, and desperately wish Mafell would produce a cordless version (the Erika 70 tends to pop 15A breakers), here's hoping!..... 🤞

Tom...do you have the 120V or 230V version?
