I cut into the top but only where the rail is, more or less. When it gets a little too chewed up, I'm thinking I'll try some epoxy filler or route a dado and glue in a wood strip to see if i can get a little more life from that side.
I'd like to keep the surface in as good of condition as possible so I can have a decently flat surface when I need it. However, I'm not sure how flat it will be long term. I have slightly raised rough spots where sweaty arms touched the surface.
