Planex Suggestions

I'm just wonder who out there has a planex and what really works with it.  I'm really going to be using it mostly for drywall.  I got the vac also, but I'm wondering if I need to get another length of hose and an power cord extension for greater mobility.  I use 120, 150 and 180 grits of sand paper, but any other suggestions?  I just ordered another extension section and a blast gate.  Do I really need the holder that attaches to the top of the ct also?  I'm going to be using right away, so any tips would be helpful.

No one?  Well, for those of you wondering, the hose length is really good.  I didn't think 11 1/2 feet was long enough.  I'm going to hold out on the head holder that mounts on the ct36ac.  I got those abrasive because that's what I use for textured and smooth finishes, course only the 180 for smooth.  Looks like the blast gate will quicken the cleaning cycle and also keep the dust in when transporting.  Most of the people I worked for were real neat freaks, so this will quicken the jobs up.

Please keep us posted.  I was ready to pick one up for a series of jobs starting next month but was told last week everything is getting pushed back by 60 days.  [sad]

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts once you've run it through it's paces.

Use the inside holes for dust extraction unless you're sanding something that will produce big particles/chips like removing popcorn. Turn the CT all the way up and use the dial on the Planex to regulate suction to find that sweet spot where it holds to the wall to some extent but also floats, probably around 3-4.

Start the Planex while it's ON the wall rather than turning it on and bringing it against the wall, that will minimize the chance of nicking it with the edge of the abrasive/pad. Start slow, there's a learning curve, remember you can dial the speed down on the Planex easily. Also, start with a high grit until you get the hang of it. It can really motor through some drywall compound if you want it to.

If you do a lot of overhead work, consider the harness as an option, it's worth it.

The mount for the CT is a nice-to-have. It holds some abrasive sheets and the Planex when it's not in use. The neat thing is the Planex will go on it pad down or pad up. Pad up is nice for removing and applying a new sheet of abrasive.

I've only spent about 45 minutes using it and that's what I can share to get you up and going quickly.

If you have other specific questions, feel free to ask.

Just to clarify what Shane said, he means a high grit number so it doesn't take off too much too fast, until you get a feel for it.

I will keep you guys up to date.

I just wanted to see how strong the suction could be, so I placed the power head on the wall and turned on the vac and dialed it up to 6.  DAMN!  That's some suction.

Starting settings:  Power head-3; Suction:-3; Skirt Suction; Autoclean-max; Vac speed-max; Brilliant 150.  That may be too aggressive, but I don't wanna go too light on the grit or it won't smooth out the butt joints.
