Plexiglas Template, Self Center?

I had a question about the Festool Plexiglas router mortise template and haven't seen it mentioned in any reviews.

  If you max out the the fence adjustments on opposite corners of the jig, snug them loosely, set the jig on your material and twist the jig, will the router bit be centered over the material?

If it works, this would be a really fast way to set up the jig. Also it would make the jig useful after the bottom got scratched up and got harder to see through. Also easier for old guys like myself with eyesight not as good as it used to be. ;D

I don't have one of these templates (yet :) so I would appreciate it if someone with the jig could test this and report back to the group.

I don't have one either, but I would guess that this wouldn't work, since the slots are straight, not curved.

If one end of the fence is fixed, then the other needs to move in an arc, in a curved slot.

I think the bigger problem is the short length of the slots. They're too short to pivot to match narrow stock. But, if they were long enough to pivot enough to match narrow stock you would run into the need for curved slots, or fat slots and big fender washers.

if I understand your questions it does not self center but their are markings for zero that you can line up with the pencil mark on your project. and then set each side using the markings.

I just used it yesterday for the first time and it was a brief time at a friends shop that had it and briefly checked it out.  that 2200 router is really cool

one thing with this guide is no dust!  the vac sucked up alll allll allllll the crumbs!  excellent!

It will not center that way.  the center hole is not centered in the length of the jig for some reason.

Ok, Thanks for the replies. Guess I have to buy some Lexan and add another project to the list.

May be because the genuine Festool version has a dust port to clear the groove of debris as the jig progresses.
