Possible Kapex mobile base

I have a Kapex and want to build or buy a mobile base for it. I don't need to move it out of the workshop but do want to be able to move around the workshop. I have the crown stops for additional support and use roller stands if I need support for longer boards. I was going to build a cabinet out of 17mm ply and have shelves or drawers for storage - then I saw this:

It has appropriate dimensions (according to my assessment). I would possibly need to attach a board to the top to provide a suitable interface. The only consideration I can think of is whether the type of storage provided by the cabinet is optimal (this is something I am wrestling with). Can anyone else think of pros or cons of this idea?

At a glance I can see three possible drawbacks,
Height of that trolly is 950, add a Kapex then you are looking at a table height of 1050, of course it depends on how tall you are but I wouldn't want my Kapex that high.

Only two of those four cart wheels have brakes, would the trolly stay stable enough.

And the depth of that trolly is only 465, So the trolly would have to be about 150 away from the wall for the Kapex to sit on it. So you wouldn't be able to clamp the trolly against the wall to keep it even more stable.

[member=42735]DB10[/member], Thanks for that. I am 6' 3" so I don't think the height would be a problem. I don't mind the back of the Kapex sticking out but I hadn't thought about the fact that only two of the castors are braked. The cabinet itself weighs 53 Kg (empty) so I would have thought this would give the setup extra stability?

Hi Cliff

Have you considered my design? It is not too costly to build (most of the wood for mine came from offcuts so the cost came from the castors and drawer slides). I suspect it would be a lot cheaper than the cart shown in that link.

I know you are tall but the 900 mm height allows an MFT3 to be used as an additional support etc.

Here is the link to my video:

The plans are free - just PM your email address to me.

Peter, that looks excellent! I would be very interested in building one. I'll send you a pm.

Many thanks, Cliff

I'd encourage people of any height to have their miter saw set fairly high.  The reason is to get the work closer to your eyes.  That way there is less bending down to align precision cuts.

I happen to be on the taller side so I have my Kapex height at a total of 42" (1070mm).  A guy at 5'8" tall found that height to work for him too.

My Kapex is at 1 metre high and it could be a touch higher. I agree, stooping is no fun. I am 5' 10".
Here is the video.
