This might be a stupid question, but I will ask anyway.......

When purchasing metric size plywood are the dimensions true? For example does 19mm thick plywood actually measure 19mm? Or does it vary like the imperial measurements?

Thanks,

Keith

Keith, I believe that the measurements are true.  If you have been buying imperial plywood like most of us in the US you have actually been buying metric thickness plywood with imperial panel sizes.  Take a metric tape measure off the wall at one of the big box stores and check it out.

Thanks for the reply Peter! That is what actually primed my interest. I want to start building cabinets for my garage and use the metric system because of its simplicity. When I measured my 3/4" plywood with a digital caliper it measured just shy of 19mm.

I guess I am good to proceed.

Thanks,

Keith

... except in the U.K.

running a caliper on 9mm gives me 8.5
?? = 9.5
12 = 10.5
15 = 15
18 = 18
6  =

That is if you can find a metric one!  YMMV, but I asked for one in the local orange box store and the clerk who thought they had one tape in metric, searched for a while and discovered they no longer carry them.

I built Tim's MFTC from 12mm ply from Wickes which actually was 11mm. Didn't realise until the push release drawers weren't catching right. Only then did I think to check. Nothing a wee packer didn't sort but slightly irritating. The 18mm also comes in at 17mm. Always worth checking.
