It would be great if the ETS150 sanders had quick change pads like the Rotex series. I use three different pads on my ETS150/5, and swap them quite often.

Obviously a common sense design aspect that was ignored just like having one sander (RTS400 or DTS400) and 2 pad styles.

Well, maybe on the next generation of sanders that I assume will be on the way in the coming years.  Just think, quick change pads and brushless motors, maybe a cordless model(s). [thumbs up]

If they really bring such an ETS 150/3 I might also eventually buy one.
-> Pads compatible with Rotex and flat as Mirka Ceros!

But it might take some time...
I talked to them at Ligna 2011 about the pads and they said that there is no plan for such an ETS.  There's a difficulty with the necessary locking mechanism.  The RO can only be locked in Rotex mode as well.

I just stumbled on this problem the other day when I purchased a hard pad with the intentions of switching between the Rotex and the ETS 150.  Now I have to buy another pad for the ETS150.  I was wondering why they would not make them the same but the lock mode makes since.

They are not the same because the ETS is a lot older than the Rotex. The predecessor of the Rotex had the same pad as the ETS but with the release of the new Rotex they changed to the Fastifx pad.

The idea of the locking mechanism being a problem for a new ETS sound like BS to me. If it has a shaft you can find a way to lock it. It seems a lot more reasonable to me that Festool doesn't want or feel the need to update the ETS because it is almost perfect as it is now. Why change a winning formula?

You also have to think along the lines of corporate profits from consumables.  The more items you are required to buy and eventually replace, the more money the sales chain makes from dealer to manufacturer.
