When I was building full time, I would use block footer under door was in walkout basements. I would set the footing slab below frost level then block up to 4" below the slab elevation. Then I would parge coat both sides with surface bonding, then waterproof it, cover with 6 mil poly and backfill with gravel. Surface bonding is sold everywhere now, it's easy to use and you can dry stack the block if you're not use to laying it up. I was a big fan of overkill, but I didn't have problems and I was also a Building Inspector, so I had to make it right.
