I'm guessing that your PC collars are imperial and the MFS holder is metric. Just get a metric collar to fit the holder.

The PC collars and locking ring fit and work fine.
What doesn't fit is the snap on stabilization puck from the MFS 400.

Got a picture.  Festool has a "ring" that snaps into the router base for each size.
The base that comes with the OF 1400 allows PC collets and locking rings to work.

If you notice the Festool ring has a large diameter.  This is what the little puck snaps onto.

Here's a better picture of the puck.  It snaps into the router template guide.
Bottom Line:  If you get an MFS 400, make sure you have a 24mm, 27mm, 30mm, or 40mm Festoor guide.

Tinker - that puck thing is called the stability base. the half moon slots snap onto the edge of the festool guide rings and it kind of swivels around the ring. It is the same height as the guide rails.

You use it if you have the space in the middle of the template larger than the base of the router. since the router base isn't riding on the template guide on one side it could tip. this puck thing makes a "foot" so the router base stays level.

I have use PC guide rings in my OF1400 many times without a problem...  Until yesterday.  Luckily my new CMT  Up/Down Cut bit survived unscathed.

In fact if attempted repeatedly the whole router can become jammed.  This is not a good thing.

Might be worth getting a longer bit.  I used Whiteside #1073 from Woodworkersworld.net, with great success.  Awesome service there too.

Edit:  Actually, Whiteside 1073-01 is even longer overall and a couple bucks more but orders over $29 ship free.  ---#1073 is $28.80..doh!  [eek] [blink] [scared]

I love Whiteside bits.  I've got a bunch of them.  However the 1073 is a straight bit and I am hooked on spiral bits.  They cut exceptionally clean.  Their RU5200 is 4" overall and somehow I missed it.  The CMT is 3" overall.  I thought that would be enough.  Should have measured.

I gave up using PC guide rings.  A year or so ago, i got a lot of good advice from here on the FOG about how to lock them without them coming undone.  I appreciated the advice, but have not tried using them since.  I have all of the 1400 inserts and several of the 1000 inserts and they are fool proof (Fool proof = even I cannot mess them up  :)

I will be very hesitant to use the PC guides again.
Certainly not for a mortise application.  Small bit inly, maybe.
