The new RO 90 DX multi-mode sander --- What are your questions?

Ken Nagrod said:
Would Festool be able to authorize dealers to make it up themselves with a set price by sending out memos before the RO90's release date?

Dealers are welcome to create their own assortments. Pricing would be based on the per unit price of the abrasives.

Welp, I have to report that there will not be an abrasive assortment offered with the launch of the RO 90.

Lynch mob anyone?

J/K Shane!  We all know you tried and probably would've endured some Rochambeau to make it happen.
Mostly I liked this angry fire burning mob graphic.

This is disappointing.  I was waiting on this to pre-order the RO90.

Might not get the RO90 now.

To each his own, but I see it as a "six of one, half-dozen of the other" situation.  This way I can buy whichever abrasives I want, and none that I don't want.

John

Joe,

Curious, I understand the disappointment part, but why would it prevent you from buying the sander?

Bob, honestly, This would be my first Festool sander and I do not want to experiment with expensive sandpaper until I figure out what works for me.

Right now, it is pretty simple, I use my Dewalt ROS with 80 to 220 grit mostly, but Festool has alot more options and two sizes for the RO90, plus they are not exactly cheap.  I would have loved the assortment because I could have at least some sort of mixture to see what works for me without spending a few hundred and having some paper sitting around not being used.

I am still thinking about buying it, but that assortment would have definitely pushed me over the edge.

I was going to give you a call to see if you are going to make your own assortment.  [big grin]

I think it's generally better that the user gets the abrasives according to what they are planning to do instead of getting a generic assortment in the type of quantities that a Systainer assortment holds.

When we were selling the assortments for the 150mm and 125mm diameter paper, I ended up swapping out paper for people on multiple occasions anyway. Some people already have some of it also and would rather expand their coverage when getting a nice assortment.

I think it's probably not bad for the users.

Yes, I will be doin' something along those lines; haven't worked out the logistics though - lots of varibales, thoughts and decisions need to be gone over; my idea of proper sample selection may not be the next person's idea of a good selection and there are two different sizes/kinds of pads and papers for the R0 90 - Deltex and 9O, so, there's twice the variables introduced compared to the ETS 150 sample packs.
But, Tom's point is well taken; for many/most users, the 1 size assortment systainer may not be the best road to travel.  Many grits will be available in smaller packs and even the larger packs of the Deltex papers are fairly inexpensive.

Any idea on how much the paper will cost?  Or did I miss that somewhere.

Joe, the Deltex paper prices are available - and due to the very small size of the pad, are very inexpensive.

Now I am confused ???
I thought that the issue was to put together a systainer with abrasives  for an intro package deal.  So... are we saying now that there would be no small samples of sanding papers that will be included with the RO90 at all like the ETS sanders?  I just got an ETS 150 and it came with some sanding papers eventhough I ordered some extras.   Can someone clarify this?
Thanks,

P.S. Thanks Bob.... I received my order without problems.  [cool]

There's a "starter sample" pack that comes with the sanders.  Shane listed them earlier.  It was like 5 sheets of several types/sizes of Granat.

The idea that was being kicked around was creating a Systainer + 90mm/Delta Assortment promotional-type package
Similar to what was offered here:    http://www.festoolusa.com/SysNotes/SysNotes-oct-2008.html#05
(Click on "05 Festool Fall 2008 Promotions" link)

This was a combo of Systainer, insert, and abrasives.  Here's a detailed overview of the 150mm:  http://www.festoolusa.com/products/sanders/abrasives/abrasives-systainers/6-abrasives-assortment-systainer-M0078.html

That 150mm package was $225 in the stores I saw it..

Hopefully the dealers will step in a fill the void until Festool USA releases there own Systainer full of Rotex 90 sandpaper.

There are quite a few sheets of sand paper that comes with the starter/sample pack with the sander.

It depends what you do as to how long those will last you but, then you will know what one's you need/want to order.

I have a few full boxes of paper for my 125's that I thought I would use but, are still sitting unopened on a shelf.

First post after developing my "festool fetish"....

I have one question which is probably stupid, but will the RO 90 work with non-festool hook and loop sanding pads? Assuming there
are other 3.5" pads available (I have a 5" sander now so I've never paid much attention to other sizes).

Thanks.

Most of the time the dust collection hole pattern is different.

To respond to the emails and PM's regarding selling papers in smaller quantities and/or making up an assortment, yes, can/will do.  :)Just got to "get the logistics/papers in hand" thing going.
