This is by no means a comprehensive instructional video, but it is a good bunch of highlights from a recent training session in which 18 doors were sprayed with waterborne paint by students in our P2F program.

Spraying in vertical orientation at more than HVLP fluid pressure is one of the more difficult things to do.

Tips for technique include: pace, distance from target, hose management, entry and exit to vertical pass, fan overlap, sighting down, etc.

The paint used is Sherwin Williams Cashmere, sprayed through a Graco 395 Finish Pro at 1400 psi.

Thought I'd add this to the archives for folks who are trying to find the right balance in vertical spray applications. It is always nice when we can do horizontal spraying, but in a case like this, it would take a week to do it. Going vertical, it is done in a couple hours.

Video quality is not great, but then its not easy to gather footage in a field based spray setting.

Feel free to post up any questions.

Thanks for posting Scott.  I learned a lesson or two about that a long time ago when I was spraying some conveyer belt assemblies that we had built for a Conveyor Company.  No way to disassemble a conveyor to make it easier to paint...... And it all had to look right and be really well painted/covered for both maint. and Food grade specs.  [smile]

You're welcome, guys...feel free to post any follow up questions.

I haven't been on the FOG much lately. Busy wrapping up exterior season here and preparing for workshops this fall...anyone going to JLC Remodeling/Deck Expo in Chicago next month?

I was hoping so, Tom. Looking forward to meeting up with you. Teaching 3 classes in two days, but will definitely have some spare time. I'll keep you posted on the itinerary as it gets closer...

The veggies and fruit should be the right amount of rotten by then. [big grin]

Looking forward to meeting you also. While you're in, if you and Todd (spouse welcome also) have time, dinners on me. Pretty sure I know a few places [thumbs up]

If you need anything, don't hesitate..........

Thanks Tom...Todd and I are planning to fly in on tuesday of that week, so hold that evening open as a possible dinner out night. We may need to borrow an extractor out there, still haven't figured out how to get one on a plane as a carry on! And, if you have any ipe scraps kicking around the shop, I'll buy some...

Stock pile all the rotten fruit and veggies you want...I am really hoping you don't land in any of the rooms we are teaching in! But we do fire back... [scared]

Really looking forward to it. I'll be in touch soon.  [big grin]

Which size extractor-Mini-Midi-CT 22-CT 36 AC, all of them?

All the Ipe scraps I have are yours. What size you want them?

We are midi snobs. Should just need one.

Ipe scraps in 2-3' lengths would be great. If you have any weathered that have been removed from older decks, those would be particularly desirable.

Midi it is.

Nothing weathered, I'll take some drops out of the trailer and leave them outside for the next few weeks.

Thanks Tom! I'm glad to be finally heading to your neck of the woods...

Thanks! We are staying at a Marriot about 3 blocks from the pier. For entertainment, (our wives come to town later in the week) we are going to see Blues Traveler at the House of Blues and also a Chicago-Detroit ballgame...should be quite a trip. We are in town tuesday-sunday.

I do love Buddy Guy...haven't seen him in a long time.  [unsure]

Must be the Marriott that is part of the McCormick Place complex. Legends is about 1 block west 5 blocks north from the Marriott.
