Hello all, it has been a year and my insulating saga continues. I learned a lot from you guys. Building science, convection, conduction and radiance, air sealing... this old house has it all. I have both paid for work and done a lot myself. Big improvements, but more to do. The attic was a drafty mess with insulation dating back to November 1932. How do I know? Newspapers! Let me tell you, the news wasn't so much better then. So, the upstairs stack effect there has been taking care of, but the basement is a mess. Previous owners finished the basement, so I have drywall walls between me and endless air leaks. My trusty Great Stuff gun has been getting a work out, and I have gone through maybe three or four 4x8 boards of rigid foam. PS I have to say I like the Loctite foam stuff better than the Greatstuff in a can.
