What would say would be the best Festool to buy first.

ROTEX 150 was not my first purchase, but it's getting the most use as I slowly re-do all the red oak floors in my house (edge-sanding, stair treads, etc.).  My first purchase (gift, actually) was the TS55 and CT22 vacuum.  That was the grease on the slippery slope!

Don't really need anything in particular, but want to give a Festool a try.

What would you say is the Festool you use  most? Why? Which toll do you think would be a good jumping off point.

Thanks, can't wait to get my hands on one of these tools for my shop.

They had this special running about a year ago.  Did it just come back again?

Oops -- I guess I should have looked at the date on the post.  I wish Matt would quit moving the old posts to the front.

Bob, do you think they'll have another deal like that again soon?

I just don't know, your guess is as good as mine. Festool really doesn't announce to dealers what next season's promos (if any) will be and I can certainly understand why they don't.

Toolpig,
I didn't move it.  Any time someone responds to a discussion, it causes that discussion to move up to the top.  In this case, henry1224 posted about his tools after this discussion was dormant for about four-months.

I think it's a great for people to delve into the history and revive or continue an older thread that still has relevance.

I think good advise has been given. I am one who says, buy what you need for your next project. That said, (the plunge saw, rails, CT22) would be my starting point. Last night I watched a DIY repeat of The New Yankee Workshop." Norm was constructing a large kitchen peninsula. As he was hefting a 4 X 8 sheet of prefinished cabinet grade maple ply. He made the point: "in my shop I am fortunate to have a work table that is on the feed side and a large outfeed table so that when I saw...." He has a large shop. I don't have room for those although in the past I have had and the weight of the panels (particularly white melamine) made it oh so difficult.
I yelled at the screen "Norm, that is exactly where the Festool plunge saw, guide rail and vacuum beats your system. Listen to Tom Silva." You have to understand, I commonly talk to the screen. But it is so true.
As most of you have read, I have my local lumberyard deliver panel stock AND load it on my panel carrier. I tilt it down onto the work table with about 8 lbs of force ? I can handle that. From that point on - zip, zip, zip, zip, zip, zip, zip, and zip (eight I think) and all my cabinet parts are cut to final dimensions. What's not to like.

Beth doing "zip" one.
Beth starts panel cut...easily.
