Whiteside Ultimate Combination Trim Bit?

Hi. Just got Woodpecker's for sale notice about the Whiteside ultimate combination router trim bit. I'm thinking about buying one. Anybody have experience or an opinion with one of these bits?

I have one I picked up from In Touch Tools in Palm Desert, CA, my nearest Festool Dealer.  The bit is terrific.  Because it is a combo of up and down spirals, it leaves a great edge with no fraying of either the top or bottom edge.  They also have two other similar ones, one that has a top mount bearing and one with a bearing at the bottom of the bit.  The combo one works great for me.

Be advised Woodpeckers sales are never the best buy on anything they put on sale. Im assuming you are looking at this price from their website (LINK). Where they have the Whiteside UDC9112 for $131.99. That is the normal price at Carbide Processors (LINK), so right off the bat there is no deal there, BUT Carbide Processors has a long time running 10% off coupon code ("creekers") which will make it a better price. They are also free shipping for any order over $150 and no sales tax for most. I buy all my Whiteside bits and many other things including any Woodpeckers and Bessey products from them. They are awesome and their customer service has been stellar.

I got it initially to flush trim some laminate coated plywood.  Worked great, and it is now my go-to bit for template work, since it has both the top and bottom bearings.  I've heard some complaints that the bit life is no better than standard flush trim bits -- I don't think I've put quite enough miles on it yet to know for myself, but so far I have been very happy with its performance.

I live in Canada and the price offered to me by Woodpecker was something like $190. However, seeing as how I don't have a project right now that could use that bit, I've decided to pass on it. I came awful close to pulling the trigger though. Maybe some other time.

I've been using one for four months, in a hand held (2200) and table.  Will easily take off 3mm on 1" stock.  Leaves a good a surface as any other straight edge bit I've used.  Some minor tear out on top and bottom edges.  It is relatively expensive but this is a Festool forum ....

I am thinking of getting one of these suckers and running it on my OF1400 mounted on my CMS VL.  Has anyone else run this bit on a 1400 or is 2.25 hp not enough power for this beastly bit?

Runs fine on the 1400, though do turn down the speed.  I've used it freehand, I imagine it will be even safer table mounted.  But it's already pretty safe freehand.

Is there a less expensive option that maybe "less than ultimate" but better than a "trim bit"?  I want great results, but not at the "ultimate" price.

You could go for a regular spiral flush trim bit.  The advantage of the spiral is that it delivers a cleaner cut and doesn't tax the router as much, since only part of the cutting edge is in contact with the surface at any given time:https://www.whitesiderouterbits.com/collections/flush-trim-spiral-bits
