Woodpecker square

Finally got mine! I was a bit disappointed the markings weren't etched as well.

I received mine a few weeks ago. Overall, it's very nice...got quite a heft to it and well constructed. The only ding I have against it is that the numbers and markings aren't etched or stamped into the aluminum. It's more of a screen or printing so I see over time this may not last and for a tool designed for a lifetime of use that seems less than ideal.

Infact the markings are engraved in the surface. The anodized surface is about as hard as a file (slightly less). When we hit it with the laser part of the anodize is burn't away and the rest is converted to aluminum oxide. To wear it out one would have to remove metal.

By the way.  The cap screws will loosen and you won't notice and it will mess you up.   It's a nightmare getting the plates "prefect" again.  So tighten them periodically whether they need it or not.

I wasn't aware that the screws would loosen. I'm thinking temperature changes might be causing it. Will look into a solution.

That's good to know, I'm glad to hear that! Any chance, the engraving can be made deeper, it's nice to have that tactile feel on at least the main markers points (like at every 10mmm or 1" in length)?

Thanks for the tip fshanno....will keep that in mind.

Rich   Back at the Somerset show in NJ, I mentioned to one of the ladies at the booth my problem with the coping sled knobs coming loose, I told her I used some loctite on the handles and it was solved. Well i did the same thing with the hook screw again problem solved, just my 2 cents

Thats their only downfall although I wish they were the next size in length to fill the threaded area.

I had some of the screws on the original metric square loosen recently and the alignment go out.  I used their tiny machinists square to line the plates back with the leg's edge and checked it with my 18" triangle.  I think mine loosened up from dropping off the MFT.  [scared]
