Woodpecker's Parallel Guide System One Time Tool

For those of you who may have received the track with an extra 1/16" graduation, keep in mind that the placement of each marking is very precisely located, within .003" or better. In our effort to double check that all the graduations were as perfectly placed as possible, no one noticed that the first piece of track had an extra 1/16 marking. Fortunately it was caught early in the production run. Replacement tracks are being produced and shipped.

Monju,

Would you mind uploading some pics of the bracket attached to the rail similar to what others (including myself) have posted?

Thanks
Jack

I am just finishing building two platform beds using the woodpecker system. So far I am mostly happy with them. On my initial set up I noticed the 1/16th inch discrepancy and contacted woodpecker about it. They informed me that they were aware of the problem and will be sending a replacement rails as apparently is the case. I have not had any problems  since I began accounting for the one 16th of an inch. I did not take any particular care in attaching the guides to the rails and have experienced very good, near perfect accurcary. I also find them to be much easier to attatch to the rails than the Festool guides. Overall, mostly, but not wildly happy with them.

Hey guys, Sorry for my absense. I have been out of the office the past fews days with strep throat ( thats the fun part part of having 3 kids!). I should have responed sooner so not to cause an uproar on this thread. We have been looking into a solution for the concerns some of you are having with the Parallel Guide System. I see Rich responded to you about not worrying that we will have an answer for you shortly. Those of you who have purchased items from us in the past know you can count on us to handle any situation to make you completely satified. So please be patient while we research and  try to work through your concerns.

I think you misread the 1/16 inch comment. That refers to the mistake on the markings not the precision in using the rails. After compensating for the error, the system worked well.
Woodpecker is already replacing the mismarked rails and corrected the error in manufacturing.

Next week, after I have my steroid shot for a pinched nerve in my neck I will use this tool to make a Sysport.  I will report back.

It seems WP is aware of the situation yet the product keeps shipping. mine are due to arrive tomorrow. I'm going to assume that I may have the same problem as everyone else but won't know until I put them together.  If the same problem exists I'm really going to wonder why it shipped knowing there are problems.

Just a quick update...we looked into the issues some of you were having with The Main Body Bracket and some of the track that is out there. Unfortunately we were unaware of the inconsistency in the variance of the track you might have. We did come up with a fix that will accommodate all the track you have. We are looking to start shipping these out to you in about two weeks. Those of you that purchased the Parallel Guide System directly through Woodpeckers you don't have to do anything. We will automatically ship this out to you. Those of you who purchased this through our dealers, please contact us through mailroom@woodpeck.com and we will get these out to you as well. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you and thank you for your continued business.

For me, the system as-is, is totally usable for its intended purposes. The bracket attachment works, but isn't perfect.

I'm glad my unit was shipped. There may be a real delay for Woodpecker to analyze the issue, develop a fix, and get the fix into production.

I think they are smart in continuing to ship.

If the product wasn't safe or simply didn't work, they would be justified in not shipping.

That is great news [member=34727]Zeusman[/member] , thank you for letting us know. Can you share any details on what the fix is?

[attachimg=3][attachimg=2]Late to this. Re my attached photo - is this the issue we are being promised a fix for? Photo shows bracket tightened as much as I can but bracket doesn't sit flat to rail and leaves front edge/lip of bracket not contacting the rail - so things do move when the bracket and guide rail are moved

Ok...Here it is. It's basically like our track connector. Instead of using the oval nuts that came with the original set. Screw the Main Body Bracket into the two center holes of the new Mounting Bracket Fixture. It will slide into your current saw track. Because of how the two parts (Main Body Bracket and new Mounting Fixture) fit together, there is no way for the Bracket to pivot out of place anymore. Very sturdy. Very Rigid. Instructions will be included with the new shipment.

Thanks for the info! Will these new parts be included in your shipments to dealers, such as Tool Nut, who dont have them yet. Or do we just need to contact you through email as described?

Great that there is an improvement... This should work based on my earlier attempt with the original connector brackets if the height is slightly reduced.... Glad this works out.

Please do include longer screws!

These will be included in future shipments. Only the folks who received the PGS from dealers already will have to email us directly.

Glad to hear we will be taken care of :)

One thing I did wonder is since this tool accessory is supposed to be stand alone and ready to go, why isn't a #3 phillips included in the kit? Or even better would be to use allen head screws and include an allen key that lays flat for storage. There is no storage in the systainer case for a #3 phillips with a handle, and I don't want any more stuff packed into my saws systainer.

Edit: Also since I have a systainer with the foam are we supposed to cut the foam to make the parts fit? I do plan to leave them attached at all times.

Wow, nice solution. Much better than the oval nuts. OK, here comes the loaded question/hint: any chance of making a shorter version of this for the t track attachment? I find that I have to leave these very loose, almost to the point of falling off to get them to engage in the t tracks properly - or perhaps slightly longer screws are the answer here.

An observation/question to other members and Woodpeckers re: calibration. I assume that calibration is pretty much a one time affair. Calibrate the rails, make note of where the main body intersects the t-track (which for me is 268 mm) and unless I have to replace the splinter guard as long as I position them the same way every time I should be good to go. I've measured distances from the splinter guard out to various spots on the track with my metric tape and it was spot on at that setting. Are others doing the same?

I would think a little "foam surgery" with an Exacto knife would do the job.
Unfortunately it won't work. There is not enough room on either side.

Woodpeckers, please let us know what the solution for the foam insert will be.

This is great news!! As always you have stood by your product and taken care of your customers.

Just one question... Will the fix be annondized woodpecker red, or left plain like the prototype  [poke]  [big grin]

I sure hope it's anodized and includes longer screws. Current ones barely catch the screw thread....
