$99 PRO 5 Sander Promotion + $50 Voucher - New Festool REQ Sanders (US)

I'm with you, mine are dust and dirt colored after a week or two...... :)

Wait and see. I have some anthracite color Systainers and they show dust like crazy! The Pro % box is even darker color so I expect it to be even worse. The plastic holds static and dust accumulates in patterns. I'll try wiping the boxes with a fabric softeners sheet.

Got a new Poplar Woodworking magazine yesterday. There is a full page back cove ad on the $99 5 Pro Sander.
There will be a lot of surprised people that try to get the sander based on the ads PWW & other WW magazines only to discover they are already all gone.

Are there dates on the ad?  It's one thing to run a limited promotion, and another to advertise nationally based on price.  I would think that Festool is committed to selling at that price to anyone who orders within whatever dates are on the ad.

I may run out and get a Popular Woodworking just for that ad.

The tools and the limited systainers are technically a dark blue  (or blue / black) but in most light (if not all light?) they look black. Though to me, the systainers in particular do truly look black. I have noticed that a scratch or scrape will reveal some blue color.

Here is a recent topic on the colors ....... Festool Colors.

I am not sure that Festool covered themselves just by saying limited quantities available when the promotion was halted before the magazine ad even appeared. I could argue that this looks just like a bait and switch promotion, where the advertised item is no longer available but a higher priced item can be bought instead. I am sure that this was not intended, but Festool may have a hard time limiting the promotion to sanders already ordered.

I am still having trouble understanding why Festool did not see how this was going to turn out. "Hey, let's practically give away this sander. Do you think we will get much interest?" Didn't anybody in the US organization raise their hand and say, "Orders are going to explode. We better have a big load of sanders available."

The guy who posted the instagram photo and actually has the thing in his hands, said the systainer is black.  I know we were told the systainer would be blue.  Either way, it looks great to me!

It is blue. Saw them yesterday at our dealer.

Sorry if I missed this, but how will the voucher work? It seems I can order on Nov 1 and get a rebate when the sander arrives, is that right?  Before I saw the promo I was about to buy a TS 55 REQ and extractor. I saw the  promo and thought I could wait a few weeks, since I don't have a project going currently. Now I am wondering if this is going to be a few more weeks or even longer. (I also got the toolnut email, so was not early enough in jumping on the deal to get the first batch). I must admit I am a bit disappointed,  as this is my first festool purchase, but it's nothing to get wound up about in the grand scheme of things.

I wish if some dealers are starting to sell/ship early, that Festool would just drop the pretense and allow everyone to go ahead.

If you compare the tool and the systainer, they appear to be the same color. Now compare the tool to the plastic insert and to the new vacuum hose connection, there is a slight difference in color.

Too soon to tell. My dealer (very small with limited inventory in Montana)  told me the promotion started November 1 and they seemed ready to fulfill orders.  Now the ads appear.  It looks like the pre-sale was only part of a much larger picture with the intent of triggering a deep penetration into the NA market. Frankly, I am astonished to see these ads. Those poor little Festool elves in the Black Forest will have to go on overtime.

Who knows where this is taking us. Next thing we know, there will be a Festool Kiosk at Home Depot.

Here is the ad from Fine Woodworking Tools&Shops 2017.

It clearly states limited quantity. Magazine ads are planned months in advance. Festool covered themselves as I see it.

The ad also states  "Available November 2016". Those limited quantities  were gone long before November 2016.

A lot of fuss going on. The ads say available Nov 2016, that is when they will be available to be in your hands. If people didn't get one or are getting bumped, I can understand the feeling of frustration. But let's be honest here, it's just a $99 tool to purchase, the tool was offered as a pre-order with orders far exceeding Festool's expectations. It sold out in pre-order, so be it. No one is entitled to it after the fact if they missed out. Many things in life are first come first serve. I'd expect Festool to honor all the pre-orders. Beyond that, I can't see what more is required once they honor those, it was a limited item to start.

In perspective, Festool users/owners don't seem to fuss nearly as much when it comes to tools we can't get in North America yet are offered everywhere else. That would be a better battle to fight.

Nice try at diversion.

You didn't fall for that old whopper did you ?  [embarassed] [embarassed]

"I heard from a guy, on the internet "................. [scared]

I'm not fond of the darker systainers.

Festool blue is very, very dark. Confusing it for black is completely understandable and common.

There are a lot of "why didn't Festool order more?"/"Festool should have seen this coming" comments. These are understandable. I can't talk numbers, but our quantity of PRO 5 LTD was much, much higher than other tools for this reason. Obviously, we still unestimated demand. This promotion was uncharted territory for us, so lesson learned.

Tyler - I'm hoping the takeaway isn't to ban cut rate pricing introductions altogether.    [sad]

What other logical conclusion could they possible come to.....

Obviously, it's too soon to know definitely. We have some more traditional price promotions planned for next year. Whether we do something dramatic like the PRO 5 LTD again has yet to be determined.

TylerC, can you please point me to details on the voucher. I would like to apply it to the purchase of a TS55 REQ and extractor, but have been told there is no ETA on my PRO5.
