Babbit Bearings

The oil wells are in the boxes under the lower bearings.  A wool wick goes in that hole.

No seals, I scraped an oil groove in a ring around each end of the bearings where the return holes are.

I also cut one of the shims so it acts like a wiper.

This is the 3rd set I have poured, I have scraped several other sets.

I have not scraped any iron in, but I do have a project that will require it.

So far, I have struck out on my affordable biax find.

I have made a bit more progress, maybe more pictures tomorrow.

biaxes are a great thing, i have both the scraper and the flaker. i scrape everything i can.:)

If the bearing is not set up right, it will heat up.  Set up right, they run nice and cool.

I got this thing back up and running, but not without having to set up the shims differently, and ordering some f10 felt to retain oil.

Lot of time, but worth the effort.
