domino question

Planning on making some drawers and was wondering if there are alternatives to this. It's been awhile since I made drawers with my domino and balancing to make sure I got a decent 90 degree plunge was not fun. lol

You were using the plastic foot screwed to the base as shown in the picture?  That should be reasonably stable, but I would lay the board flat over the edge of a table (clamped of course) and orient the domino vertically over the edge of the board to make the plunge.  You shouldn't need to balance it that way, just don't force the domino off vertical. 

I use the domiplate from seneca, but basically in the same way I outlined above with the Festool accessory foot.

Another idea is to put 3 or 4 boards back to back in the vertical position in your picture.  That way you have a bigger surface to put the top of the Domino fence on top of.

I made an L-shaped fixture that I clamp to the backside of the board I am cutting mortises into. One leg of the L is clamped to the board with the other leg of the L flush with the top of the workpiece. I find legs of about 6" provides good support. The workpiece is clamped in my vise.

If you have an MFT clamp the 2 pieces in a L configuration simular to a Dovetail jig and use through dominos looks pretty cool and fast and easy to do once ya get it down.

Yes, put the board flat that way you can press down hard on the plastic support.

And, yes, ^^^ the Big Foot is great for this! Just bought one a few weeks ago.

Only problem with what Russell suggests is that it could be difficult to keep the backer boards aligned perfectly to make a perpendicular plunge. If one is even a little high the plunge will be tilted. Clamping this up several times might not be very consistent either.

One possibility is that instead of referencing off the fence, if you can reference off the base of the machine; then you can hold your drawer side vertically, put the base of the machine flat against the table, and plunge that way.  I do that with a scrap jig that has a 90 degree angle.  This is a fake picture, because I don't have pictures of when I've actually done it that way; but I think it captures the idea for you.
